The Utah Geological Survey (UGS), a division of the Utah Department of Natural Resources, provides timely scientific information about Utah's geologic environment, resources, and hazards. The UGS is the primary public organization in Utah that actively collects and manages various geologic information, data, and sample resources of Utah, is charged in state code (Section 79-3-202) for these activities, and is the only Utah organization dedicated to provide geologic reports, publications, maps, and data; significant, state-wide coverage of historical aerial photography; and related data online. Geoscientific collections managed by the UGS are aggregated in the National Digital Catalog to enhance discovery and...

Rock samples (n=4) of anhydrite with rounded nodules of braitschite, a hydrous calcium rare-earth borate mineral. Samples are from the Cane Creek Potash Mine, Texas Gulf Sulphur Company, located in Grand County, UT, south of Moab, Utah. The samples were discovered in the marine evaporites in the Paradox Member of the Hermosa Formation of Pennsylvanian age in the Paradox basin. The zone of braitschite nodules occurs in depths from 3,000 to 3,500 feet. The braitschite was found in pinkish to white nodules that are approximately 65% braitschite and approximately 35% quartz, anhydrite, dolomite, halite as well as minor amounts of hematite and the occassional crystals of chalcopyrite. Sample material was collected in...

This map set contains unpublished maps, cross- sections, and related information archived by the State Geological and Natural History Survey of Connecticut as part of the Survey Library Collection. These materials have not been reviewed for accuracy, consistency, or completeness. For many geographic areas, more current information exists, either in published or unpublished form. For the most part, these materials were developed under research and mapping agreements between the State Geological Survey and individual scientists, academic institutions, or graduate students. Some of these materials have been received by the State Geological Survey as donations. The veracity of the information contained within these...
