As part of a collaborative study with the City of Raleigh, North Carolina, the U.S. Geological Survey is assessing streambank erosion potential in selected stream reaches throughout the Greater Raleigh metropolitan area. Rapid field measurement techniques were used to assess streambank stability at 124 stream segments between January and March 2022. Field data were collected using the Bank Erosion Hazard Index (BEHI) and Near Bank Stress (NBS) assessment methods (Rosgen, 2001; Rosgen and others, 2008) as well as the Rapid Geomorphic Assessment (RGA) method (Simon and others, 2007). This data release provides ancillary data that describe potential nutrient sources and processes for total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) annual loads for 84 water-quality sites within the Chesapeake Bay. The purpose of the study for which these data were developed is to test causal hypotheses, using structural equation models, related to the drivers of TN and TP load in the Chesapeake Bay over the period 1985-2012. The metadata document the sources of the original data and how the estimates were derived, including estimation of missing values.
