The current database consists of location 9,032 entries. The surface-based, point data include 5,272, 6,939, and 903 density, magnetic susceptibility, and NRM measurements, respectively. Downhole data from 146 drillcore have also been incorporated, yielding an additional 1,145 and 9,622 measurements of density and magnetic susceptibility, respectively. Geologic interpretation of gravity and magnetic anomaly data in a given area is greatly enhanced if density, magnetic susceptibility (MS) and natural remanent magnetization (NRM) data are available for representative rock-types (Chandler and others, 2008). Along with geologic information from outcrop and drill-holes, rock property data help relate geophysical anomaly...

This collection currently contains approximately 24,000 oil- and gas- related surface samples, which is a subset of the 507,000 surface samples housed at the Alaska Geologic Materials Center. The Amoco Heritage Collection was donated by Amoco-BP in 2002 and contains samples from fieldwork conducted from 1960-1990 in high energy-resource-potential areas of Alaska.

Annual summaries of mineral extraction and exploration activities in Idaho and factors impacting these activities. Published and unpublished content. In 1975 Idaho Geological Survey, then named Idaho Bureau of Mines and Geology, began compiling annual summaries for use by U.S. Bureau of Mines and U.S. Geological Survey annual reports after dissolution of the office of the Idaho State Inspector of Mines in 1974. These state data resources are generally more rich in content and context than federal summaries. As part of an ongoing project funded in part by U.S. Geological Survey and Idaho Department of Lands, data from these documents are being geo-related within the Idaho Geological Survey's Database of Mines and...

Records in this collection are classified into one of four categories that best characterizes the data contained within the borehole record. The classifications are: Geotechnical: Boreholes and pits created with the intent to gain a detailed understanding of the subsurface lithology and soil or rock properties therein. These records have additional data beyond lithologic descriptions including penetrometer resistance, shear and strength tests, density measurements, etc. Lithologic borings: Boreholes are drill solely for the purpose of identifying subsurface lithology. Material testing techniques were not used (or the results are not provided) to allow for a more detailed understanding of subsurface material properties....

Compilation of rotary sonic drill cores with magnetic susceptibility measurements collected by Minnesota Geological Survey Quaternary geologists. The full dataset is available upon request and includes 1) magnetic susceptibility profiles for each rotary sonic core, 2) named unit averages and standard deviations for each county, and 3) named unit averages and standard deviations for all data.

The New Jersey Zinc Company Historical Collection contains details of mining operations at the Austinville-Ivanhoe underground lead-zinc mines located in Wythe County in southwestern Virginia from 1902 to 1981. This site also operated under the name Bertha Mineral Company. The records pertain mainly to the historic Austinville-Ivanhoe underground lead-zinc mines located in Wythe County. The site produced zinc and lead from underground mines in the historic Austinville-Ivanhoe mineral district located in Wythe County. During this nearly 80-year span of continuous mine operations near Austinville, the company also conducted base metals exploration in other regions of Virginia, including the Timberville lead-zinc...

This collection contains 2,456 botanical specimens. The majority of the specimens were collected from Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Idaho, and Alaska in the 1950s through 1970s. Dr. H. T. Shacklette was the major curator and contributor during that time. The collection was transferred to the USGS from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in 1996 when the unit that would become the Biological Resources Division became part of the USGS. The collection was accessioned as USGS museum property in 2005. It is housed at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History Herbarium, where it is integrated with the rest of the Herbarium's collection. The specimens are curated, and their use is managed, by...

This collection contains sediment core samples collected during the 2015 India National Gas Hydrate Program Expedition 02 (NGHP-02), which was operated in the area of the Krishna-Godavari Basin along the Eastern Continental Margin of India. The samples are stored in cardboard boxes on one wood pallet.

Dataset contains point data describing the results of 1-channel and 12-channel seismic refraction studies mapped at a scale of 1:24,000, from the Maine Geological Survey. The results include the depth to the water and depth to the bedrock. Links are also provided, when available, to the profile graphs for the seismic line.

The Charles Sandberg Conodont Collection represents over 50 years of seminal research on the taxa (species and subspecies), zonation, biofacies, localities, and distribution of Devonian/Carboniferous-age conodonts in the U.S. and around the world. This collection is extensive, very-well documented and is particularly important for reconstructing the biostratigraphy and palaeogeography of the Paleozoic Era. The collection also includes books, notes, and other reference materials associated with Dr. Sandberg's research. Additionally, the collection is supported by a 4th Dimension database (in need of conversion and updating), that provides managed access to the collection and tabular content collected as part of Dr....

This collection contains rock samples collected in the 1980s to support USGS research regarding mineral deposits in the Challis Volcanic Field in Idaho. This research is described in USGS Bulletin 1658-A-S (McIntyre, 1983). Samples are stored in two cardboard boxes on a wood pallet.

Dependable access to critical minerals information is vital to ensuring the continued domestic security and economic prosperity of the United States. At present, Alabama has known deposits, prospects, and occurrences of at least 21 of these commodities, including aluminum, arsenic, barium, beryllium, chromium, cobalt, fluorite, graphite, lithium, magnesium, manganese, platinum group metals (PGMs), rare earth elements (REEs), tantalum, tin, thorium, titanium, uranium, vanadium, zinc, and zirconium; but may have as many 31, including potential occurrences of gallium, germanium, hafnium, indium, lanthanum, nickel, niobium, rhenium, selenium, and yttrium. Although none of these commodities are currently being produced...

Minnesota Geological Survey, in cooperation with industry, sampled the State of Minnesota and adjacent regions for till geochemistry and indicator minerals at a 30-km spacing during summer 2004. Within target cells, each a quarter-degree latitude by a half-degree longitude, till from between about 1 and 2 m depth was sampled by filling a 15 liter plastic pail. At a few sites, vertical profiles were collected. In addition, three transects to the north were sampled, to help identify sediments derived by long-distance glacial transport, to obtain reference samples from the Thompson nickel belt, and also to extend sampling to the limit of Hudson Bay-derived carbonate-bearing sediments, to permit comparison to Minnesota...

All sediment samples from auger holes, outcrops, and cores are processed to determine texture. The 1-2 mm coarse sand fraction is packaged separately, and about half of these fractions are categorized lithologically by a glacial geologist. The data are recorded on paper data sheets and in a database.

Rock samples (n=4) of anhydrite with rounded nodules of braitschite, a hydrous calcium rare-earth borate mineral. Samples are from the Cane Creek Potash Mine, Texas Gulf Sulphur Company, located in Grand County, UT, south of Moab, Utah. The samples were discovered in the marine evaporites in the Paradox Member of the Hermosa Formation of Pennsylvanian age in the Paradox basin. The zone of braitschite nodules occurs in depths from 3,000 to 3,500 feet. The braitschite was found in pinkish to white nodules that are approximately 65% braitschite and approximately 35% quartz, anhydrite, dolomite, halite as well as minor amounts of hematite and the occassional crystals of chalcopyrite. Sample material was collected in...
