Dataset contains digital versions of physical core logs housed in Missouri Geological Survey archives. The logs are variable in detail, ranging from simple locations and formation tops to extensive stratigraphic descriptions and chemistry. A portion were done by MGS staff; others were donated by industry, academia, and government entities. The dataset includes logs for mines or undeveloped deposits with occurrences of or potential for critical minerals, along with logs in areas with permissive geology. The dataset comprises three tables: header and location information; formation/stratigraphic top, bottom and written description; and geochemical and assay data.
Dataset contains sample-level metadata on unpublished field maps contained in Missouri Geological Survey archives. Maps were used for a wide range of projects; therefore type and quantity of data on each map varies considerably. Maps contain spatial data (locations of mines, springs, wells, outcrops, sinkholes, and other features), as well as field notes, measured and cross sections, detail sketches, material properties, and other geologic data. Maps are primarily 7.5-minute and 15-minute quadrangles; some with other scales are included. Display coordinates are the lower left hand corner of the map. Maps are available through the Material Request instructions noted below. MGS is in the process of attaching individual...
The Missouri Geological Survey's McCracken Core Library and Research Center contains more than 3,300 drill cores, comprising 1.4 million feet of core. The majority of cores in the repository were donated, with the remainder drilled by MGS. Cores were drilled for metallic and industrial minerals, mineral fuels, and stratigraphic and environmental studies. Repository materials are available for study; information on making an appointment and on MGS repository policy and procedures is available at https://dnr.mo.gov/geology/geosrv/geores/mccracken.htm. This dataset includes only those cores for which coordinates are available to the section level. A complete listing of holdings is available at the above website.
The Missouri Geological Survey (MGS) mineral resource file collection is a one-of-a-kind collection, dating to the early 1900s, that contains unique geologic information not recorded elsewhere. Due to the historic nature of the collection the data it contains would be impossible to replicate today. These data are invaluable to present day geologic research, field and mine-related projects as well as engineering and construction projects. The files not only contain irreplaceable physical geologic information, but document the evolving geologic interpretations and nomenclature during a dynamic time in the science of geology. The files are scanned and have a subject inventory. The scans are available from the MGS in...
