Donn Davids, curator of natural history from the Ohio Historical Society, is pictured with some of the McGill Mastodon (Mammut americanum) bones next to a barn in Concord Township, Champaign County, Ohio. During the channelizing of Glady Creek in August 1978, some remnants of a mastodon were dredged up and deposited on an adjacent corn field. The remains were taken to the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus, Ohio, for identification. After digging test trenches in the area on September 12, 1978, staff from the Ohio Historical Society undertook a salvage excavation at the site on September 18, 1978. The excavation site of the Orleton Farms Mastodon (Mammut americanum) in Somerford Township, Madison County, Ohio. The mastodon was discovered in November 1949 during work to install a drain tile. The image shows the mastodon's skull lying immediately underneath the drain tile, which partialy destroyed the top of the skull. The image was taken by Richard P. Goldthwait in 1951.
The Burning Tree Mastodon (Mammut americanum) excavation site at the Burning Tree Golf Course south of Heath in Licking Township, Licking County, Ohio. The Burning Tree Mastodon is one of the most complete specimens of a mastodon found to date. It was discovered on December 12, 1989, during excavation for a pond on the course. Most of the skeleton had been recovered within three days of the initial find in what was probably a peat bog formed from a small kettle lake. Five casts were made from the original specimen skeleton before it was sold to a museum in Japan. The image was taken by Michael C. Hansen on December 13, 1989. The location given is the entrance to the Burning Tree Golf Course.

Excavation at Dan Cooper's trilobite dig site in Highland County, Ohio. Dan Cooper had several acres of land in Highland County at which he carried out periodic excavations for Isotelus and other fossils in the Arnheim Formation. The Bedrock is from the Ordovician Geologic Period. The image was made by Michael C. Hansen in summer 1985 during filming for BBC Films three part series The Making of a Continent. The location given is approximate to Clay Township in Highland County.

A gravel lense along Glady Creek near where mastodon (Mammut americanum) remains were found on the McGill farm in Concord Township, Champaign County, Ohio. Staff from the Ohio Historical Society undertook a salvage excavation at the site on September 18, 1978. An excavation trench 40 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 8 feet deep was dug in an attempt to locate additional mastodon remains. This excavation produced a first rib, the sacrum, an epiphyseal plate, skull fragments, and a toe bone. The finds were widely scattered in the excavation and appeared to have been previously disturbed, possibly by channelizing of Glady Creek in the 1930s or 1940s. The image was taken by Michael C.
