Index card: Petrified sand dunes, looking northeast from the park road 2.7 miles north of Courthouse Wash. The Navajo Sandstone was once a huge sand pile of dunes laid down by winds during an arid interval, so it is interesting to note that the irregularly weathered sandstone once again resembles a pile of cross-bedded dunes. Arches National Park. Grand County, Utah. July 11, 1972. Note: Published as figure 32, U.S. Geological Survey. Bulletin 1393. 1975. See also: lsw00078
