This data set contains distribution information for all mammals occurring in the Western Hemisphere. The goal of this project is to make this distributional information freely available to the public to inform conservation and other land-use decisions. A Memorandum of Understanding signed by NatureServe (then known as the Association for Biodiversity Information), The Nature Conservancy/Migratory Bird Program, Conservation International/CABS, World Wildlife Fund-US, and in 2000, with the subsequent addition of Environment Canada, governed the initial development and guidelines for sharing of these data. The MOU expired in 2003, but NatureServe, the compiler of the data set, continues to maintain the data largely...

Climate change has been shown to influence lake temperatures globally. To better understand the diversity of lake responses to climate change and give managers tools to manage individual lakes, we modelled daily water temperature profiles for 10,774 lakes in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin for contemporary (1979-2015) and future (2020-2040 and 2080-2100) time periods with climate models based on the Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5, the worst-case emission scenario. From simulated temperatures, we derived commonly used, ecologically relevant annual metrics of thermal conditions for each lake. We included all available supporting metadata including satellite and in-situ observations of water clarity, maximum...

The South Florida Fish and Invertebrate Assessment Network (FIAN) is a monitoring project within the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). It is an element of the Southern Estuaries module of the Monitoring and Assessment Plan (MAP).The FIAN is designed to support the four broad objectives of MAP: (1) to establish a pre-CERP reference state, including variability, for each of the performance measures; (2) to determine the status and trends in the performance measures; (3) to detect unexpected responses of the ecosystem to changes in stressors resulting from CERP activities; and (4) to support scientific investigations designed to increase ecosystem understanding, cause-and-effect, and interpretation...

Accurate and consistent estimates of shrubland ecosystem components are crucial to a better understanding of ecosystems condition in arid and semiarid lands. We developed an innovative approach by integrating multiple information to quantify shrubland components as continuous field products within the National Land Cover Database (NLCD). The approach consists of five major parts: field sample collection, high-resolution mapping of shrubland components using WorldView-2 imagery and regression tree models, Landsat 8 radiometric balancing and phenological mosaicking, coarse resolution estimate of shrubland components across a large geographic extent using Landsat 8 phenological mosaics and regression tree models, and...

Climate change and land use change have been shown to influence lake temperatures and water clarity in different ways. To better understand the diversity of lake responses to climate change and give managers tools to manage individual lakes, we focused on improving prediction accuracy for daily water temperature profiles in 2,332 lakes during 1980-2019. The data are organized into these items: This research was funded by the Department of the Interior Northeast and North Central Climate Adaptation Science Centers, a Midwest Glacial Lakes Fish Habitat Partnership grant through F&WS Access to computing facilities was provided by USGS Advanced Research Computing, USGS Yeti Supercomputer (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7D798MJ)....

This dataset provides complete fits from metabolism estimation models. The format is 5 files per model (text and tab-delimited files, packaged as 1 zip file per model): (1) estimates of daily gross primary productivity (GPP), ecosystem respiration (ER), and the gas exchange coefficient (K600), (2) parameters for the model overall, (3) estimates of the nodes defining the piecewise line relating K600 to discharge, (4) parameters for the overall relationship between K600 and discharge, and (5) any warnings returned by the model. This dataset is part of a larger data release of metabolism model inputs and outputs for 356 streams and rivers across the United States (https://doi.org/10.5066/F70864KX). The complete release...

This dataset provides shapefile outlines of the catchments contributing to sites where metabolism was or could have been estimated. The format is a shapefile for all sites combined (.shp, .shx, .dbf, and .prj files). This dataset is part of a larger data release of metabolism model inputs and outputs for 356 streams and rivers across the United States (https://doi.org/10.5066/F70864KX). The complete release includes: modeled estimates of gross primary productivity, ecosystem respiration, and the gas exchange coefficient; model input data and alternative input data; model fit and diagnostic information; site catchment boundaries and site point locations; and potential predictors of metabolism such as discharge and...
