Aquatic invertebrates are a key component of freshwater ecosystems, and an understanding of aquatic invertebrate taxonomy is central to freshwater science. The North American Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Digital Reference Collection (NAAMDRC) was created by the U.S. Geological Survey Aquatic Experimental Lab (AXL) at the Fort Collins Science Center to provide users with a graphic tool to aid in the identification and verification of aquatic macroinvertebrates. Many aquatic ecology labs possess a collection of reference organisms that technicians and taxonomists may compare and confirm against expertly identified and verified type specimens of a particular taxa. A digital reference collection (DRC) can overcome several...

Wyoming railroads and rail yards were created at 1:24000 as an accurate representation for taxation purposes. This is critical for the GIS analysis needs of the Ad Valorem mapping section. This was not meant to be nor was it based on legal descriptions.

ABSTRACT Mixed cultures capable of dechlorinating chlorinated ethanes and ethenes were enriched from contaminated wetland sediment at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) Maryland. The “West Branch Consortium” (WBC-2) was capable of degrading 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (TeCA), trichloroethene (TCE), cis and trans 1,2-dichloroethene (DCE), 1,1,2-trichloroethane (TCA), 1,2-dichloroethane, and vinyl chloride to nonchlorinated end products ethene and ethane. WBC-2 dechlorinated TeCA, TCA, and cisDCE rapidly and simultaneously. A Clostridium sp. phylogenetically closely related to an uncultured member of a TCE-degrading consortium was numerically dominant in the WBC-2 clone library after 11 months of enrichment in culture. Clostridiales,...

If these images are used in public presentations such as scientific meetings, please provide photo credit (e.g., USGS, AXL Digital Reference Collection) for images. 1,1,2,2-Tetrachloroethane (TeCA) contaminated groundwater at the Aberdeen Proving Ground discharges through an anaerobic wetland in West Branch Canal Creek (MD), where dechlorination occurs. Two microbially mediated pathways, dichloroelimination and hydrogenolysis, account for most of the TeCA degradation at this site. The dichloroelimination pathways lead to the formation of vinyl chloride (VC), a recalcitrant carcinogen of great concern. The goal of this investigation was to determine whether microbially-available Fe(III) in the wetland surface sediment influenced the fate of TeCA and its daughter products. Differences were identified in the TeCA degradation pathway between microcosms treated with amorphous ferric...
Lists of every specimen in the DRC are provided and organized alphabetically by order. Taxa currently included in the DRC have fields populated with an X. Conversely, blank fields indicate taxa that are not yet photographed. The current geographic and taxonomic scope of the NAAMDRC encompasses aquatic insects found in the United States west of the Mississippi River. As funding and resources allow, the DRC will be continually expanded to cover North America and non-insect aquatic taxa. If you have specimens to contribute to the collection, please visit the Feedback-Submission tab for instructions on the submission process. For the initial production effort, the NAAMDRC is focused primarily on the larval stages...
