The geologic and structure map of Choteau 1 x 2 degreequadrangle (Mudge and others, 1982) was originally converted toa digital format by Jeff Silkwood (U.S. Forest Service andcompleted by the U.S. Geological Survey staff and contractor atthe Spokane Field Office (WA) in 2000 for input into ageographic information system (GIS). The resulting digitalgeologic map (GIS) database can be queried in many ways toproduce a variey of geologic maps. Digital base map data files(topography, roads, towns, rivers and lakes, etc.) are notincluded: they may be obtained from a variety of commercial andgovernment sources. This database is not meant to be used ordisplayed at any scale larger than 1:250,000 (e.g. 1:100,000or 1:24,000....

This file contains data for selected significant, buried Quaternary sediments, which is one layer of information on this CD-ROM, USGS Digital Data Series #38 (Soller and Packard, 1998). Together, all layers (10 of them) compose the digital version of a 1:1,000,000- scale map of Quaternary deposits (including both glacial and Holocene sediments) compiled for the glaciated area of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains (that is, the area covered by the Laurentide ice sheets). Parts of southern Ontario, areas beneath the Great Lakes, and parts of the submerged eastern seaboard are also included on the map. The paper geologic map of the western part of the Cut Bank 1° x 2° quadrangle, northwestern Montana (Harrison and others, 1998) was digitized and initially attributed by the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG) and remitted to the U.S. Geological Survey for further attribution and publication of the geospatial digital files. The resulting digital geologic map GIS can be queried in many ways to produce a variety of geological maps.
