Unpublished mineral assessment reports of the Colville andOkanogan national forests (Chelan, Ferry, Okanogan, PendOreille, Skagit, Stevens, and Whatcom counties, WA) containdata on 3,934 samples analyzed for gold, silver, copper, lead,zinc, molybdenum, tungsten and uranium. Data presented herewere obtained by R.A. Grant (1982a,b) for an assessment ofthe mineral potential of these national forests during1979-1982 under a contract from the USDA-Forest Service.

Permits to explore for and (or) develop mineral resources onFederal lands can be used to indicate locations and types ofmineral-related activities on national forests. Permits for theseactivities require filing of a Notice of Intent to conduct mineralexploration activities and (or) a Plan of Operation, ifsignificant land disturbance results. This compilation of noticesand plans for the Colville, Kaniksu, Okanogan, and Wenatcheenational forests between 1967 and 1998 is intended for use incombination with geologic and economic information to predictfuture mineral-related activities in the region.

Geologic data from the geologic map of the Spokane 1:100,000-scale quadrangle compiled by Joseph (1990) were entered into a geographic information system (GIS) as part of a larger effort to create regional digital geology for the Pacific Northwest. The map area is located in eastern Washington and extendds across the state border into western Idaho.

The geology of the Sandpoint 1:250,000 quadrangle, Washington, Idaho,and Montana was mapped by F.K. Miller, R.F. Burmester, D.M. Miller,and R.E. Powell between 1963 and 1995 onto a scale-stable 1:250,000topographic map base and subsequently input into an Arc/Info geographicinformation system (GIS) by P.D. Derkey. The digital geologic mapdatabase can be queried in many ways to produce a variety of derivativegeologic maps.

This data set maps and describes the geology of the Chewelah 30' X 60'quadrangle, Washington and Idaho. Cell maps for each oil and gas play were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in a play or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, or dry. Digital mineral databases are necessary to carry outweights-of-evidence modeling of mineral resources forepithermal gold and carbonate-hosted lead-zinc deposits innortheast Washington. This report describes four digitaldata sets (presented as separate sheets in tables.xls, anExcel97-format file) used for this modeling: 1) trainingsites for epithermal gold, 2) placer gold sites, 3) trainingsites for carbonate-hosted lead-zinc, and 4) small lead-zincmines.
