Using a solutions-oriented, multi-agency collaboration, we propose to pilot a large-scale assessment of an alternative (herding, electric- and virtual-fence) grazing strategy designed to mimic pre-colonial grazing patterns by bison, to ascertain their value for local- and regional-scale assemblages ofsagebrush- and grassland-associated birds in Montana. A fundamental goal of most wildlife-based grazing programs is to foster a mosaic of patches that represent the broadest possible spectrum of habitat types that benefits different sagebrush- and grassland-associated birds in different parts of the landscape (for example, western meadowlarks, vesper sparrows, and thick-billed longspur in open, heavily grazed areas;...

This project acquired, federated and curated approximately one million new observations to the Avian Knowledge Network. These new observations, in addition to millions of existing records, were used to model the distribution and abundance of 26 species of land birds in the southern portion of the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative (NPLCC) region including CA, OR and WA. The models were based on climate and modeled vegetation.Using the models, maps were created showing the distribution and abundance of each species for current (late 20th century) conditions and projected the models to future conditions (2070) based on five regional climate models. The bird models were also used to create maps of conservation...

The dataset is comprised of historical observations and predictions of winter colony counts at known sites for three bat species (little brown bat, Myotis lucifugus; tricolored bat, Perimyotis subflavus; and big brown bat, Eptesicus fuscus). The dataset consists of two separate but related data files in tabular format (comma-separated values [.csv]). Each data set consists of predicted winter counts derived using winter status and trends modeling methods developed by the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat). These two predicted winter count data sets were used to inform NABat summertime status and trends analysis: 1) modeled abundance predictions for all hibernacula for all three species from 2010-2021,...

This data release consists of a single table that includes sample site geographic locations, insect prey abundance, and bat activity and behavior metrics. The dataset was used to develop multi-state occupancy models of foraging habitat use by Hawaiian hoary bats (Lasiurus cinereus semotus).

This Data Release provides brook trout abundance records for pool habitats within 2 streams in Shenandoah National Park (Staunton River and Paine Run). The data were collected with 3-pass backpack electrofishing conducted during baseflow conditions between 2012-2021. This dataset enables spatial analysis of brook trout population responses to drought conditions.

This data release includes metadata and tabular data that documents the endangered orangeblack Hawaiian damselfly (Megalagrion xanthomelas) at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park during 2016-2017. Data sets document (1) numbers of damselflies observed during surveys, (2) habitat characteristics of anchialine pools at which damselflies were surveyed, (3) substrates on which female damselflies exhibited egg-laying behavior, and (4) continuous 30-day measurements of temperature and salinity taken at four pools.

This data release includes metadata and tabular data that documents counts of shrimp and measurements of field variables aimed to identify factors that affect the distribution and abundance of the uncommon anchialine pool shrimp Metabetaeus lohena at Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park during 2017. The data set documents biological, chemical and physical attributes within 173 anchialine pools surveyed during the study.
Seasonal trends and weighted persistence for 3 target species: Blueback herring, American shad, and Atlantic mackerel The Trend in Abundance Metric was developed to address the following question concerning the distribution of specific fish species relative to places in the North Atlantic Marine Ecoregion: Where in the ecoregion has the abundance been increasing or decreasing? (trends) The Weighted Persistence metric was developed to address the following questions concerning the distribution of specific fish species relative to places in the North Atlantic Marine Ecoregion: Where in the ecoregion has the species been consistently found over time? (persistence) Where in the ecoregion is the species consistently...
This is the primary ScienceBase page for accessing North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) data. The BBS project measures bird populations on an annual basis. It has been in operation for more than 50 years, monitors 700+ types of birds, and spans the continent (map at right shows sample locations in red). More information about BBS history, methods, and past and ongoing applications of project data can be found in the "Related External Resources" section below. Accessing the Data The BBS releases its data on an annual basis. The “Child Items” section below provides links to the most recent as well as historic data releases. Each annual release includes all previously released data, plus all subsequent taxonomic...

These data were compiled for a manuscript entitled 'Vital rates of a burgeoning population of Humpback Chub in western Grand Canyon. Objective(s) of our study were to compare survival and growth of humpback chub in western Grand Canyon to that from the more established metapopulation in eastern Grand Canyon that spawns in the Little Colorado River (LCR). These data represent capture histories of fish based on mark-recapture data. These data were collected in eastern Grand Canyon (CR-east study site) and in the western Grand Canyon (CR-west study site). The CR-east reach sites are located at the lower 13.56 rkm of the LCR and in the mainstem of the Colorado River at river kilometers (rkm) 126.2-128.7 (2009-2016)...

We determined the critical thermal maximum (CTMax) of six species of Eleutherodactylus frogs (Eleutherodactylus antillensis, Eleutherodactylus brittoni, Eleutherodactylus cochranae, Eleutherodactylus coqui, Eleutherodactylus juanariveroi, Eleutherodactylus wightmanae) to understand their response to warming temperatures. Data consist of capture history, body condition, and temperature at which the frog exhibited spasms and erratic behavior, which may impair predator avoidance. Our results underscored the potential vulnerability of Eleutherodactylus species exhibiting lower CTMax to the forecasted warming of tropical zones (e.g., E. wightmanae, E. brittoni).
