Personal email communication from Alan Terrell on January 17, 2021, "This photograph was taken on August 12, 1870. Source of the date is the 1870 diary transcription. Jackson states: "Dr. (Hayden), Giff (Gifford), Ell (Elliot), Turn (Turnbull), Ford, John, Besely & Loucks with ambulance started for Laramie Peak. As we advanced clouds raised. Stopped at Granite Ridge, made photos and lunched...." The "ambulance" is seen in this photograph. Also seen is the fire that "Potato John" prepared for cooking lunch. The globular granite structures surround the group. The next day the group went further...
