A nationally compiled dataset containing provincial Forest Tenures/Forest Management Areas and other administrative areas where rights to establish, grow, harvest or remove timber from a particular area of land has been granted. Each province has different boundary definitions and/or harvesting practices which prevents this dataset from having a standard defined tenure unit for all of Canada (See data sources in metadata). British Columbia was the only province where tenure boundaries had to be complied from several different sources in order to have a definable tenure unit comparable to other provinces (see NOTES in metadata).

A coal/CBM database was implemented by the Alberta Geological Survey to capture and manage information related to coalbed methane (CBM). The database is a compilation of data from many different sources and contains information on 7923 wells (15,200 formation picks; 37,357 coal picks; 495 coal analyses; and 363 vitrinite reflectance measurements). This is a subset of those wells that fall inside the coal zone.

This data set contains imagery from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP). The NAIP program is administered by USDA FSA and has been established to support two main FSA strategic goals centered on agricultural production. These are, increase stewardship of America's natural resources while enhancing the environment, and to ensure commodities are procured and distributed effectively and efficiently to increase food security. The NAIP program supports these goals by acquiring and providing ortho imagery that has been collected during the agricultural growing season in the U.S. The NAIP ortho imagery is tailored to meet FSA requirements and is a fundamental tool used to support FSA farm and conservation programs....

The mapping of land capability for forestry is based on a national classification system comparable with the other Canada Land Inventory sectors. Land is rated according to seven classes on its capability to grow commercial timber in areas stocked with the optimum number and species of trees. This rating considers the land in its natural state, without improvements such as fertilization, drainage, or amelioration practices. This dataset contains Land Capability Ratings for the surveyed portions of the province of Alberta, for areas south of 56 degrees N latitude (Alberta is divided into two datasets due to file size constraints). Land ratings and classes may change, however, significant changes will only be achieved...

This layer has been updated in 2016 This shapefile represents the watersheds present within the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (CCE) boundary.(Note: a different CCE boundary layer was used at the time of creation, so the area amounts within the CCE may not be accurate)This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. The CMP is collaborative group of land managers, scientists, and stakeholder in the CCE. Synopsis: The purpose of this model is to indicate potential habitat for olive-backed pocket mice (Perohnathus fasciatus) within the Milk River Basin. As this is a landscape level model with course variaqbles, it may not be directly applicable to other areas for site-specific analysis. Conclusions: Olive-backed pocket mice require high proportions of grassland habitat and low proportions of shrub cover. Sites with low densities of shrubs are preferred because they provide cover from large and aerial predators, such as owls. A threshold of below 40% shrub coverage represents ideal shrub cover proportions.

Synopsis: Prior to European settlement, the Northern Mixed-grass Prairie was a mosaic of wetland, grassland and grass-shrub habitats, with riparian and floodplain forests along major drainages. Even today, the physiographic area can be characterized as being one of the largest still relatively intact grassland landscapes that persist in North America. It is the continent’s most important production area for waterfowl and is the heart of the breeding range for some of North America’s rarest species of grassland birds. A comparison of relative abundance estimates among physiographic areas sampled by the North American Breeding Bird Survey indicates that more than 40% of the world’s population of Baird’s Sparrows,...

This time-enabled map service depicts the infestation of the mountain pine beetle within Banff, Kootenay and Yoho National Parks between 1999 and 2007. It also contains reference boundaries for the parks, areas susceptible to the mountain pine beetle and areas of lodgepole pine.

This dataset represents roads in the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (with a 50km buffer). Developed with the most recently available data and represents roads in ~2016. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. The CMP is collaborative group of land managers, scientists, and stakeholder in the CCE. We propose a collaborative project with the USGS, Wyoming State Climate Office, USFWS, USFS, and the NPS whereby we will assemble and maintain long-term records of climate from key stations in and around the Great Northern LCC and subject these records to a rigorous series of QA/QC procedures. Where appropriate we will use best available practices to infill missing data, and we will develop station histories (e.g., details of station moves, instrumentation changes, etc.) as a context for interpreting these records. We will then rigorously analyze patterns of long-term (50-100 years) variability and trends in these datasets, and provide summaries designed to meet the needs of non-climate specialists working in the...

The GNLCC Multi-dimensional Synthesis is a synthesis of existing information in four categories to promote a common understanding of situation, existing information and information gaps, as well as providing an index of programmatic, resource and other climate and landscape related information for GNLCC. The synthesis includes: the GNLCC Resource Directory (organizations and initiatives); climate and ecological response (what does existing and projected climate information say and what are expected ecological effects); and monitoring (who is monitoring what).FY2011Objectives:Provide a Framework from which to organize the various monitoring and evaluation efforts. Included are key monitoring and evaluation questions...

For the past six years, the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) has funded the USGS to study fish responses to restoration efforts and to construct a model relating stream habitat with fish population dynamics in the Methow River Basin, a tributary of the Columbia River. In the proposed study, we will use fish growth, distribution and movement (USGS data), foodweb data (Idaho State University), river flow (BOR data that we will expand) and water temperature data (from numerous agencies) to develop spatially-explicit bioenergetics models to assess effects of climate change on the viability of resident salmonid populations based on models being developed by USGS. The bioenergetics models will integrate such things as climate-change...
