Mapping of terrestrial vertebrates focuses on linking a spatial representation of species-habitat matrices to geographic distribution. Each model is a combination of distribution from regional and state references in association with contiguous appropriate habitats. Ranges for all species were based on 8-digit HUCs. Habitats were based on a raster SWReGAP 1 acre MMU land cover data set, with hydrology habitats added in from USGS NHD dataset directly or through modeling. Habitat association information was obtained from various state, regional, and national references with updates from scientific literature. This portion of the Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project produced predicted habitat distribution maps for...

Data are from biological and physical environmental assessments conducted during 2018 in the lower Rouge River, MI. Sites were located upstream, downstream, and within the concrete channel section of the lower Rouge River. Water quality parameters, riparian zone characteristics, reptiles and amphibians, fishes, invertebrates, and river channel characteristics (water depth, flow, velocity) were assessed during 2018 from June-October. Previously established standardized sampling methods were used during all assessments.

These data include egg mass counts and adult capture-mark-recapture histories for Foothill Yellow-legged frogs (Rana boylii) at two streams in northern California. Data were collected from the South Fork Eel River and its tributary, Fox Creek, from 1993-2019. Data from Hurdygurdy Creek were collected from 2002-2008. This code and data support the following publication: Rose, JP, Kupferberg, SJ, Wheeler, CA, Kleeman, PM, and Halstead BJ. 2021. Estimating the survival of unobservable life stages for a declining frog with a complex life history. Ecosphere. 12(2):e03381.
Species distributions are governed by processes occurring at multiple spatial scales. For species with complex life cycles, the needs of all life stages must be met within the dispersal limitations of the species. Multi-scale processes can be particularly important for these species, where small-scale patterns in specific habitat components can affect the distribution of one life stage, whereas large-scale patterns in land cover might better explain the distribution of other life stages. Using a conditional multi-scale model, we evaluated which aspects of the landscape and local environment are most strongly related to occupancy patterns of western spadefoots (Spea hammondii). These data describe the survey, pool,...
Abstract (from http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ddi.12257/abstract): Aim Ecological niche modelling is one of the main tools that allows for the incorporation of climate change effects into conservation planning. For example, ecological niche model predictions can be used to rank species by degree of predicted future habitat loss. While many studies have considered how different modelling decisions contribute to uncertainty in niche model outputs, here we evaluate how metrics used to rank species by conservation risk respond to the choice of global climate models, greenhouse gas emission scenarios, suitable versus unsuitable threshold values, and the degree of model complexity. Location California,...

Final report submitted to the North Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative. The primary goal of this project was to advance vernal pool conservation by improving, a) knowledge of vernal pool distribution within the North Atlantic Region, and b) capacity to map vernal pool locations using remote-sensing technology. This was achieved by: compiling a spatially explicit database (the Vernal Pool Data Cooperative) of vernal pool locations in the NALCC region, including potential and field-verified pools; identifying and describing the coordinated...

Forest harvest is one of the primary landscape-scale management actions affecting riparian forests of the Pacific Northwest, U.S, yet the effect of harvest on headwater steam amphibians is largely understudied. Existing information is often limited because of the difficulty separating movement and emigration processes from occupancy and abundance estimates. We designed a before-after control-impact experiment to account for instream movement in the responses of three unique headwater stream amphibians to clearcut logging as part of the Trask River Watershed Experimental Study in the Oregon Coast Range. We captured and marked larval tailed frogs (Ascaphus truei), Coastal giant salamanders (Dicamptodon tenebrosus),...
The Nonindigenous Aquatic Species Database (NAS) information resource is an established central repository for spatially referenced biogeographic accounts of introduced aquatic species. The NAS website provides scientific reports, online/real-time queries, spatial data sets, distribution maps, fact sheets, and general information.

The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) requires the use of ecological indicators to measure the success of restoration efforts. The Everglades amphibian community is ideal because amphibians are present in all habitats and under all hydrologic regimes. During Everglades restoration, hydrologic patterns will change and the response of ecological indicators will determine success. Fourteen amphibian species were detected through visual encounter surveys, vocalization surveys and trapping methods throughout the study and the occurrence information collected in this project database.

This dataset provides the results of a national survey of the conterminous U.S. for the salamander chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal) conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative from May 2014 to August 2017. Sites were sampled by capturing amphibians by hand or by traps or nets that were then swabbed individually using methods that prevent sample contamination. All swabs were then analyzed using a real-time TaqMan PCR for detection of B. salamandrivorans on the extracted DNA. The data consist of locality information and data on the individual sampled, as well as the result of the test for B. salamandrivorans. No cases of B. salamandrivorans were detected...

In February 2017, a population of California red-legged frog Rana draytonii was discovered in the southern foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains of Riverside County, California, near the edge of the species’ historic distribution. A few days after the first sightings of R. draytonii at the Whitewater Preserve, we conducted a visual daytime search for frogs, tadpoles and egg masses followed by a nighttime eye shine search for adult frogs. The captured frog weighed, measured (snout-to-urostyle [SU]), sampled for tissue and georeferenced using a GPS unit. Survey work was authorized by a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Recovery Permit and a California Department of Fish and Wildlife Scientific Collecting Permit....

These data detail the presence of disease (Bd, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) at a set of sites that are associated with the project detailed in the abstract below: Amphibian decline is a problem of global importance, with over 40% of species considered at risk. This phenomenon is not limited to the tropics or to other countries. Amphibian species in the U.S. are also declining, contributing to the larger, global phenomenon. For example, in the State of Wyoming, the Wyoming toad has been extirpated in the wild and the boreal toad is a species of special concern. Understanding biotic and abiotic factors that influence amphibian persistence is critical for amphibian conservation. This work in northern Wyoming has...

These datasets include occurrence points and trait data for freshwater fishes, amphibians, and reptiles native to Oregon State. Occurrence data were extracted from the VertNet database and include points within Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, as well as points found within ecoregions that overlap with Oregon state (U.S. EPA Level III EcoRegions). Occurrence points include records from years 1930-2002, and only records with associated museum voucher specimens were included. Database was updated to include one record per species, per year, at a given location. Records were evaluated by taxonomic experts for each species, and suspicious records were either verified or excluded. Trait data were gathered from published...

The dataset contains the recorded locations of amphibians collected in Southeast Alaska from 1867 to 2002. The records were compiled from 15 university and museum collections in the US and Canada. The data contain records for the following species: Northwestern Salamander, Long-toed Salamander, Roughskin Newt, Western Toad, Pacific Chorus Frog, Columbia Spotted Frog, Wood Frog, and the Red-legged Frog.
