The 'Kelvin Project' file is part of the Grover Heinrichs mining collection. Grover was the Vice President of Heinrichs GEOEXploration, located in Tucson, Arizona. The collection contains over 1,400 folders including economic geology reports, maps, photos, correspondence, drill logs and other related materials. The focus of much of the information is on the western United States, particularly Arizona, but the collection also includes files on mining activity throughout the United States, foreign countries, and 82 mineral commodities.

This data release contains the U.S. salient statistics and world production data extracted from the ASBESTOS data sheet of the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2022.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has compiled a geodatabase containing mineral-related geospatial data for 10 countries of interest in Southwest Asia (area of study): Afghanistan, Cambodia, Laos, India, Indonesia, Iran, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, and Thailand. The data can be used in analyses of the extractive fuel and nonfuel mineral industries and related economic and physical infrastructure integral for the successful operation of the mineral industries within the area of study as well as the movement of mineral products across domestic and global markets. This geodatabase reflects the USGS ongoing commitment to its mission of understanding the nature and distribution of global mineral commodity supply chains...

Glasses were made from mixtures of Vermont slate and limestone. The alkali resistance of the glass powders and the glass fibers was superior to that of glass powders and glass fibers based on compositions containing large amounts of zirconia. Some of the present glass compositions have alkali-resistance almost as good as that of chrysotile asbestos. Because the raw materials costs are low, they are readily available in the U.S.A., their melting temperatures are relatively low and they.are easily rendered into glass fibers they can be considered as substitutes for asbestos for many cement type applications.

Naturally occurring asbestos (NOA) develops in predictable geologic settings worldwide. Various geologic units throughout Alaska include rock types that could potentially host naturally occurring asbestos minerals. This report and digital data release show geologic map units throughout Alaska rated according to their interpreted potential to host NOA. To summarize locations of known asbestos occurrences, we searched the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS's) Alaska Resource Data File (http://ardf.wr.usgs.gov) and Mineral Resource Data System (http://mrdata.usgs.gov/mineral-resources/mrds-ak.html) for references to asbestos in Alaska and compiled the resulting 62 documented asbestos occurrences. To better predict additional...
