Data from 316 boreholes (including coreholes) that penetrated buried pre-Middle Jurassic basement rocks that lie beneath Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plain sedimentary deposits in Florida and Alabama were compiled from non-proprietary, mostly published sources in order to support subsurface geologic mapping, geologic interpretation of geophysical data (aeromagnetic, gravity, seismic), topical studies as in geochronology, and applications ranging from mineral, energy, and water resources to earthquake hazards. Boreholes into bedrock beneath the coastal plain near the Fall Line in Alabama reveal buried extensions of geologic units exposed in the Piedmont, and those near the Gulf coast and beneath Florida provide rare...

The coastal region which includes areas within the Pee Dee, Cape Fear, and Neuse-Pamlico River Basins in South Carolina and North Carolina was chosen as a focus area study (FAS) for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Census (NWC) in 2016. The objective of the NWC is to place technical information and tools in the hands of stake holders so that they can make informed decisions on water availability. The USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center, comprised of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, conducted a 3-year study of water use and availability, climate change, and population growth to provide information related to the competing societal and ecological water needs in the Southeastern Atlantic...

Data from 391 boreholes (including coreholes) that penetrated buried pre-Cretaceous basement rocks that lie beneath Atlantic Coastal Plain sedimentary deposits in Georgia and South Carolina were compiled from non-proprietary, mostly published sources in order to support subsurface geologic mapping, geologic interpretation of geophysical data (aeromagnetic, gravity, seismic), topical studies as in geochronology, and applications ranging from mineral, energy, and water resources to earthquake hazards in the Charleston seismic zone. Most of the entries are based on previous literature. In a few cases where noted, drill cores or cuttings were examined for basic geologic observations. Boreholes into bedrock beneath the...

The titanium concentrations were obtained from a data set that is called the "National Geochemical Survey." This data set, as well as its documentation, are available in U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2004-1001 (https://mrdata.usgs.gov/geochem/doc/home.htm). The titanium concentrations were measured in 3,457 samples of stream sediments from the coastal plain of the southeastern United States; this area includes parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. The samples were collected between 1975 and 1999 during several field surveys, and the concentrations were measured using inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry.

The USGS Central Region Energy Team assesses oil and gas resources of the United States. The onshore and State water areas of the United States comprise 71 provinces. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. Each of province is defined geologically, and most province boundaries are defined by major geologic changes. This dataset is a compilation of data that has been studied and published separately, and in some cases adjacent provinces do not share a common boundary. As a consequence, there are numerous gaps and overlaps in this layer.
