Mineral_occurrence - This feature depicts a body of rock containing, or thought to contain, ore minerals or potential ore minerals. A geographic location depicts the most significant physical reference point to the mineralization. MINFILE contains geological, location and economic information on over 12,600 metallic, industrial mineral and coal occurrences in B.C. The database is used by government, industry and academia for resource management, land-use planning, exploration and research.
Polygons delimiting the watershed group boundary, which is a collections of drainage areas. In-land groups will contain a single polygon, coastal groups may contain multiple polygons (one for each island). Data prepared as a part of the BC Freshwater Atlas.

Quaternary Alluvium and Cover is a data set that is represented as a cover layer on the maps of MapPlace. It is part of the Digital Geology Map of British Columbia Project that was designed to produce a seamless digital map of the Province with consistent geological tagging. Note: the extensive Quaternary deposits of the Rocky Mountain foothills and the Peace River area have been omitted as they would completely cover and obscure the bedrock geology.

This is a provincial coverage of stream macro-reaches. A macro-reach is a homogeneous stream segment delineated through interpretation of reach attributes from the 1:50,000 National Topographic Series (NTS) of mapsheets. Reach attributes include gradient (as derived from contour interpolation), channel pattern, size of stream, order of stream, major falls, position of the stream in the landscape, and inferred bank materials. These macro-reaches are geo-referenced to the stream centreline network of the BC Watershed Atlas 50K. These data were digitized from the Pacific Pilotage Regulations dated February 26, 2011 and show areas within the Canadian Pacific EEZ where ships transiting to and from Canadian ports are required to carry a certified pilot. Data extend inland to cover all relevant inlets and have not been clipped to a particular coastline.

Legally established and spatially defined areas of old growth forest that are identified during landscape unit planning or an operational planning process. Forest licensees are required to maintain legally established OGMAs when preparing FSPs. OGMAs, in combination with other areas where forestry development is prevented or constrained, are used to achieve biodiversity targets. The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) data of the nearshore region of the North Pacific show temperature ranges in degrees C using points whose locations correspond to the centroids of AVHRR Pathfinder version 5 monthly, global, 4 km data set (PFSST V50). The pathfinder rasters are available from the Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC), hosted by NASA JPL. The data points in this dataset lie within a 20 km buffer from the GSHHS (Global Self-consistent, Hierarchical, High-resolution Shoreline) coastline. The first of six strategies in Canada’s Policy for the Conservation of Wild Pacific Salmon concerns the identification of units of diversity (called Conservation Units) and determining their conservation status. The primary purpose of this document is to describe the method that was developed to identify the Conservation Units for the five species of Pacific salmon in British Columbia.
