We developed a composite land cover approach for use in the GCPO LCC ecological assessment of upland hardwood woodlands and forests. These datasets reflect the upland hardwood “mask” that represents the composite of 3 or 4 datasets, from which the remaining landscape endpoints defined in the LCC Integrated Science Agenda will be evaluated. The mask indicates where on the landscape we estimate upland hardwood woodlands and forests to be found in any condition. Dead and downed wood in any forest serves an important ecological function with regards to decomposition and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. It also provides critical habitat for many reptile and amphibian species, such as the red-backed salamander (Plethodon cinereus), in addition to providing an important food source for insects and detritivores upon which many other species in the system depend. These layers represent estimates of imputed tree density calculated as part of the ecological assessment of upland hardwood systems. The GCPO Integrated Science Agenda targets tree densities of around 40 trees/acre for upland hardwood woodland systems and around 80 trees/acre for upland hardwood forest systems. These metrics should be correlates with target endpoints of basal area and canopy cover, though not entirely synonymous. This project was funded to understand how, where, and why outputs from landscape connectivity models vary, and to suggest approaches to increase comparability and interoperability of models across Landscape Conservation Cooperative boundaries. We began by compiling metadata from 73 landscape connectivity modeling projects into an online, editable spreadsheet. Using spatial data from a subset of studies included in the database, we conducted an uncertainty analysis to understand how much spatial variation there was among predictions from different landscape connectivity models. The application of ecological modeling can demonstrate robust, objective, and transparent biological analysis. The Austin Ecological Service Field Office has a multitude of challenging Species Status Assessments (SSA) to complete to support upcoming ESA classification decisions. This geopackage contains the density strata that were used to create the YKD Coastal Zone Survey’s current four-year rotating panel design. This file was derived from a mid-1980’s ArcInfo coverage, ‘Sampling Intensity’ (“SI arc”) that was produced through the visual interpretation of 1:250,000-scale LANDSAT imagery and the nesting density of cackling Canada geese.
This file crosswalks each species in the raw transcribed data to a common name, scientific name, four-letter American Ornithological Union (AOU) species code, and provides species-specific decision logic for the analysis of Arctic Coastal Plain, Black Scoter, Copper River, and Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta aerial survey data.
ABSTRACT: This paper discusses the consumptive water needs of the various energy conversion processes including oil shale retorting, coal gasification and liquefaction, electric power generation, and slurry pipelines. Projected energy development water needs in the upper Colorado River and Upper Missouri River basins are compared with projected agricultural needs and water available. The comparative cost and values of water to energy and agricultural development are discussed to emphasize this as well as the political and social factors entering into the picture.

The objectives of this open pine and woodland rapid ecological assessment are to provide information about (1) how much and where the pine-dominated landscapes in the GCPO meet the criteria for open pine habitat as defined in the Integrated Science Agenda (ISA), (2) how much more such habitat is needed, and (3) where opportunities exist to manage for these conditions (through thinning, burning, reforestation, enhancement, etc.). The ISA defines the desired ecological state for open pine as “woodlands and savannas that are floristically rich and comprised mostly of site-appropriate pine with low basal area, open canopies, and dense herbaceous understories in large interconnected blocks.”

This data represents an assessment of forest patch size used in the ecological assessment of upland hardwood systems by the GCPO LCC. We used a combination of remote sensing products including 2011 National Land Cover Database (NLCD) forest classes and the 2011 MAV forest classification layer produced by the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture to delineate patches of all forest types in the GCPO LCC. This projects primary goal was to provide data on biomass of potential seed resources located within shallow water coastal areas within fresh to saline coastal waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico. The data set provides biomass of seeds, by species or lowest practical taxon from 2013, 2014 and 2015 across 384 randomly selected sites located in shallow water coastal areas. The data were collected between June and September of each year. The purpose of the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat) is to create a continent-wide program to monitor bats at local to rangewide scales that will provide reliable data to promote effective conservation decisionmaking and the long-term viability of bat populations across the continent.
