Note: this data release has been deprecated. Please see new data release here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9IGSRCV. Ponds are impoundments that have been used for flood control, water supply, irrigation, and recreation. They constitute modifications to the stream network that fragment the aquatic habitat by limiting river network connectivity necessary for fish passage. A dataset was developed to quantify small ponds as proxy measures of barriers to flow in stream networks across the State. The USGS used a combination of the 2016 National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD) and the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) Plus High Res to identify 135,366 dams that are less than 10 acres in size. The features are more refined than...
Abstract Landscape connectivity is crucial for many ecological processes, including dispersal, gene flow, demographic rescue, and movement in response to climate change. As a result, governmental and non-governmental organizations are focusing efforts to map and conserve areas that facilitate movement to maintain population connectivity and promote climate adaptation. In contrast, little focus has been placed on identifying barriers—landscape features which impede movement between ecologically important areas—where restoration could most improve connectivity. Yet knowing where barriers most strongly reduce connectivity can complement traditional analyses aimed at mapping best movement routes. We introduce a novel...

This map shows information on the location, type, and fish passage barrier status of road-based stream crossing structures, dams, and miscellaneous instream structures in Washington State. It is a subset of data extracted from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) Fish Passage and Diversion Screening Inventory (FPDSI) database. It includes data compiled from several WDFW and non-WDFW fish passage barrier inventory efforts. The data are statewide in scope but do not represent a comprehensive or complete inventory of fish passage barriers. The data set is updated continually as inventory efforts are ongoing. The data are used to identify, locate, and prioritize correction of man-made fish passage...

This map summarizes information presented in the other chapters of the report, including background information on the Bureau of Land Management and Rapid Ecoregional Assessments (REAs), and the REA components that are addressed by the Wyoming Basin REA. In addition, we provide two-page summaries for each Change Agent (development, invasive species, fire, and climate change) and Conservation Element (species and communities) assessed by the Wyoming Basin REA. The REA?s provide an assessment of 1) baseline conditions for long-term monitoring of broad-scale conditions and trends; 2) landscape-level intactness of ecological communities, habitats for priority species, and the ecoregion overall; and 3) a predictive capacity...
