Quartzose grains have overgrowths at points of low pressure (pore space) adjeacent to areas that were probably under high pressure (grain contacts). Overgrowths probably develop where clay coatings are absent. A polycrystalline quartz grain (upper left) has a pod of kaolinite growing on its surface.
