Acousticstructures of sound in Gunnison's prairie dog alarm calls aredescribed, showing how these acoustic structures may encode information aboutthree different predator species (red-tailed hawk—Buteo jamaicensis; domestic dog—Canis familaris;and coyote—Canis latrans). By dividing each alarm call into 25equal-sized partitions and using resonant frequencies within each partition, commonlyoccurring acoustic structures were identified as components of alarm callsfor the three predators. An understanding of individuality in animal vocalizations can assist in tracking individuals spatially and temporally, and is particularly useful for species of conservation concern. We determined whether fitz bew vocalizations of the endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus) showed vocal individuality, assessed the differences in vocal individuality among three populations, and tested the ability of predictive vocalization models to reidentify individuals. This dataset compiles all data used in a study on occupancy of secretive marsh birds collected from automated audio recording units in southwest Louisiana. The main data files consist of detection histories for the 11 species across 20 sampling occasions at 33 sites. The sites were randomly selected, and all site level information is provided, including coordinates, marsh type, and habitat designation for our analysis. The sampling information table provides the date of each sample as well as the environmental conditions used as a covariate of detection in our model.

Invasive silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) occur in large regions of the Mississippi River drainage, outcompete native species, and are notorious for their prolific jumping behavior. Juvenile and adult (up to 25 kg) carp are known to jump up to 3 m above the water surface in response to moving watercraft. Broadband sound recorded from an outboard motor (100 hp at 32 km/hr) can modulate their behavior in captivity; however, the response of wild silver carp to broadband sound has yet to be determined. This data set includes information regarding the sound produced by outboard motor and speakers in the field and will help in determining effectiveness of the usage of control techniques in the management of carps.

This data set contains information on detections of amphibians at four bottomland hardwood restoration sites in northeastern Indiana in 2015 and 2016. Amphibian communities were surveyed using four different methods—automated recording units, diurnal visual encounter surveys along transects, nocturnal transect surveys, and amphibian rapid assessments. The data set contains three tables: 1) site descriptions and bounding coordinates, 2) detections of vocalizing anurans (i.e., frogs and toads) recorded by automated recording units, and 3) detections of amphibians by diurnal visual encounter surveys, nocturnal transect surveys, and amphibian rapid assessments.
