Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) status data created for the Western Division of the American Fisheries Society (WDAFS)
Locks and dams are possible management points to block the spread of invasive Asian carps in the United States. Infusion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into water is one deterrent strategy being considered at navigational structures to reduce upstream fish passage that would not directly interfere with lock and dam operations. The goal of this study was to determine lethal concentrations of CO2 to non-target species. Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) and Fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) were exposed to CO2 continuously for 12 hours using a diluter system. Trials were performed on both species at target water temperatures of 5, 15, and 25°C. See related manuscript for additional details on experimental methods.

The source of this coverage data set is the fish biodiversity maps created for The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as part of their Hexagon Project. Professor Peter Moyle and his graduate student, Paul Randall, of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation Biology at the University of California, Davis were hired to produce range maps for all known fish species that presently occur in California. Each coverage denotes a separate fish species (refer to the species coverage key below). The polygons are estimated to be accurate at a scale of roughly 1:1,000,000.
This dataset includes information from multiple taxa collected from four main reaches in the Upper Mississippi River Basin, including La Grange reach of Illinois River, Pool 2 of Mississippi River, Pool 19 of Mississippi River, and the St. Croix River. Taxa include hydropsychid caddisflies, chironomids, hexagenia mayflies, threeridge mussels, mapleleaf mussels, Wabash pigtoe mussels, bigmouth buffalo, gizzard shad, and bluegill. Seston samples were also collected, in addition to water samples for identifying and enumerating phytoplankton species. Fatty acids, lipids, and stable isotopes were quantified for the aforementioned taxa. Water quality data were recorded at the time of sample collection and discharge data...
