This dataset documents the depth to groundwater measured in wells screened in the Chicot aquifer, Evangeline aquifer, Jasper aquifer, Burkeville confining unit, Catahoula confining system, or a combination of multiple hydrogeologic units in the greater Houston area, Texas for 2021. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Harris‐Galveston Subsidence District, City of Houston, Fort Bend Subsidence District, Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District, and Brazoria County Groundwater Conservation District. This dataset was created to provide resource managers, public officials, researchers, and the general public with ready access to information regarding depths to groundwater in the...

Note: this data release has been deprecated. Please see new data release here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9PEFY11. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) undertook a 5-year study beginning in 2016 to assess groundwater availability for the aquifers proximal to the Gulf of Mexico from the Texas-Mexico border to the western part of the panhandle of Florida; these aquifers are collectively referred to as the coastal lowlands aquifer system. This study is one of several regional groundwater availability studies being done as part of the USGS Water Availability and Use Science Program. Groundwater from the coastal lowlands aquifer system is used mainly for public, irrigation, and industrial supply. Land-surface subsidence...

A previously completed mineral resources assessment of the Texas Coastal Plain indicated the potential for future discovery of uranium resources. Composite hydrogeologic frameworks can be used in geoenvironmental assessments as a tool to understand potential effects of mining operations. Data for a composite hydrogeologic framework are documented in this data release. The hydrogeologic framework focused on the composite hydrogeologic unit consisting of the upper part of the Miocene-age Fleming Formation/Lagarto Clay, Pliocene-age Goliad and Pleistocene-age Willis Sands, Pleistocene-age Lissie and Beaumont Formations, and Holocene-age alluvial sediments (fluvial alluvium and eolian sand deposits). This composite...

Land-surface subsidence related to groundwater pumping is an issue of ongoing concern within this study area. During the first two years of...
