The NHDPlus Version 1.0 is an integrated suite of application-ready geospatial data sets that incorporate many of the best features of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NHDPlus includes a stream network (based on the 1:100,000-scale NHD), improved networking, naming, and "value-added attributes" (VAA's). NHDPlus also includes elevation-derived catchments (drainage areas) produced using a drainage enforcement technique first broadly applied in New England, and thus dubbed "The New-England Method". This technique involves "burning-in" the 1:100,000-scale NHD and when available building "walls" using the national Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). The resulting modified...

Aquatic connectivity was modeled across the entire Landscape Conservation Cooperative geography at the catchmentand watershed scales. To evaluate aquatic connectivity, the density of dams and road crossings was used as these areknown to disrupt connectivity within aquatic systems. Connectivity data for dams and road crossings werecreated from the StreamCat database. The density of dams and roads was multiplied, at the catchment and watershedlevels, by the relative influence of each connectivity variable in the Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) models and then the connectivity variables were averaged. A single aquatic connectivity score was then assigned to each catchment. This aquaticconnectivity score was used to modify...

This USGS data release contains landscape variables representing anthropogenic disturbances to stream habitats and natural variables summarized within local and network stream catchments of the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 2.1 (NHDPlusV2.1) as well as a 90 meter local and network buffer of stream reaches throughout the conterminous U.S. The source datasets compiled and attributed to spatial units were identified as being: (1) consistent extent across the entire study area; (2) broadly representative of conditions in the past 20 years, and (3) of adequate spatial resolution that they could be used to make valid comparisons among local catchment units. Variables summarized at the catchment scale include...

Streams and their surrounding catchments exchange water and solutes on a range of physical scales. Exchange with the stream may extend into the interstitial areas of the streambed, the hyporheic zone, the riparian area, or the catchment's groundwater flow system. Even at the smaller scales, the exchanges significantly influence solute transport, nutrient cycling, and the aquatic ecosystem. Over the recent decades, considerable attention has been given to the solute transport aspects of stream–groundwater interactions. Stream–groundwater interactions are now being recognized as practical matters to be considered in environmental issues, such as stream restoration and fish habitat. In this chapter, the emphasis is...

This dataset consists of a 100 meter resolution raster of depth and area weighted averages for soil pH for each map unit key (MUKEY) in the State Soil Geographical (STATSGO2) database (NRCS, 2016). This raster was developed from selected criteria of soil parameters from the STATSGO2 database and mapped to a 100 meter resolution rasterized version of MUKEY polygons.
