From August 2018 to October 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey collected spatially high-resolution water quality data as part of five shoreline synoptic surveys around the perimeters of Owasco, Seneca, and Skaneateles Lakes within the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Water-quality data were collected just below water surface utilizing YSI EXO2 multiparameter sondes and portable nitrate sensors paired with real-time GPS data as part of a HABs monitoring program in the Finger Lakes. In October 2019, water-quality data collection was paired with discrete phytoplankton grab samples on Owasco Lake and Seneca Lake. Phytoplankton grab samples were collected just below water surface with a peristaltic pump at twelve locations...

Water velocities and water-quality constituents were measured along planned survey lines, which were generally perpendicular to the shoreline and spaced 100 meters apart, over an approximately 2.3-mile section of nearshore Lake Erie on June 10-12, 2019 (survey 1), and August 19-21, 2019 (survey 2), using a 1200 kHz acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), a YSI 6920 V2 multiparameter sonde, and a YSI EcoMapper autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). Water-quality data collected in this area included near-surface and three-dimensional measurements of water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin (blue-green algae). This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides water-quality data collected from the Caloosahatchee River and 12 fiberglass tanks located within the Caloosahatchee River. The tanks were open to the atmosphere, and were closed to the river. Tanks were filled with native water within 1-2 hours prior to the first profile collected on May 6, July 8, and September 16. Nutrients were added at approximately 12:00 p.m. on May 6, 11:45 a.m. on July 8, and 11:00 a.m. on September 16. Sodium nitrate was added for the nitrate treatments, sodium phosphate was added for the phosphate treatments, and ammonium hydroxide was added for the ammonium treatments. Nutrient samples were collected and processed by Nova Southeastern...

Here we archive data collected during a nitrogen addition field experiment in the Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel. Calcium nitrate was added on 8 dates to a segment of the ship channel centered at Navigation Light 74. Prior to and following the nutrient additions, we collected water samples and sensor-based measurements at 7 sites between Navigation Light 70 and 76. Water samples for nutrient analyses were collected in 500 mL High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) amber containers from 1 m and 8 m depths using a peristaltic pump. Whole water samples for phytoplankton analysis were collected from 1 m depth in 500 mL clear HDPE containers and immediately preserved with 20 mL of Lugol’s iodine solution (Lugol’s,...

Extended time-series sensor data were collected between 2012 and 2016 in surface water of a tidal salt-marsh creek on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The objective of this field study was to measure water chemical characteristics and flows, as part of a study to quantify lateral fluxes of dissolved carbon species between the salt marsh and estuary. Data consist of in-situ measurements including: salinity, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, redox potential, fluorescent dissolved organic matter, turbidity and chlorophyll. Surface water flow, water level and water elevation data were also measured. The data provided in this release represent a compiled data set consisting of multiple sensor deployments between 2012 and 2016.

In this data release, we provide data to describe the water quality in Green Lake, Wisconsin, from 1905 to 2020, primarily the constituents for which it is impaired, including near-surface total phosphorus concentrations and metalimnetic dissolved oxygen concentrations, and quantify the water and phosphorus inputs to the lake. We also provide inputs to and outputs from the General Lake Model coupled to the Aquatic Ecodynamics modeling library (GLM-AED) hydrodynamic water-quality model to describe the factors that have caused low dissolved oxygen concentrations in the metalimnion of Green Lake; and quantify how changes in phosphorus loading should affect near-surface total phosphorus and chlorophyll-a concentrations,...

To support an investigation of the feasibility of measuring river bathymetry using a polarizing lidar sensor, optical measurements were collected from the Colorado River near Lees Ferry, Arizona on September 23, 2019. Optical measurements were collected with a WET Labs ECO which measures the turbidity and concentration of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) and chlorophyll. Absorption and attenuation coefficients were collected with a WET Lab ac-s instrument.
