This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides whole rock major, minor, and trace element geochemical data from the fluorine-rich Mount Emmons-Redwell porphyry molybdenum (Climax-type) deposit (Mt. Emmons-Redwell deposit), located approximately 5.6 km (3.5 mi) northwest of Crested Butte, Colorado. The Mt. Emmons-Redwell deposit partly underlies Redwell Basin on the northwest flank of Mount Emmons in the west-central region of the Colorado Mineral Belt. Mineralization of the Mt. Emmons-Redwell deposit occurs at depth as vein, veinlet, stockwork, and fracture-hosted Climax-type mineralization [308 Mt at 0.32% Mo (Galey, 1978; Guarnera and Anderson, 2007)], and is associated with the Mt. Emmons igneous complex....

Although much discussed in the literature, maps showing the detailed outline of the Colorado Mineral Belt are lacking. Lovering and Goddard (1950) show the geology and mines associated with the "Front Range mineral belt" but do not indicate an outline on plates or figures. Tweto and Sims (1963) published the outline of the Colorado mineral belt as page-size illustrations, differing on each. Sims (unpublished data, 2001) attempted to refine the outline of the Colorado Mineral Belt by sketching on a paper copy of the 1:500,000-scale geologic map (Tweto, 1979), but was lacking additional data layers such as Proterozoic structures based on aeromagnetic data, mines and prospects, to query simultaneously. Based on detailed...

Radiometric data collected as part of a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over the southwest portion of the Colorado Mineral Belt in southwestern Colorado are provided as digital flight-line and grid files. Radiometric (or gamma-ray) surveys measure naturally occurring low-level radiation and are sensitive to the presence of rocks within 30 cm of the surface that are enriched in uranium, thorium, or potassium. Data for this survey were acquired by NV5 Geospatial, Inc. and its sub-contractors Precision GeoSurveys, Inc. and EDCON-PRJ, Inc under contract with the USGS. The survey was flown in September and October of 2023 using a helicopter equipped with a gamma-ray spectrometer stowed onboard....

This data release includes sampling location data, field-collected water chemistry data, cation and anion concentration data for water and tissues of submerged aquatic vegetation, aquatic insect larvae, adult aquatic insects and riparian spiders from 35 first- and second-order sub-alpine streams that ranged over several orders of magnitude in metal concentrations but were similar in elevation, geology, and stream morphology. Sampling was completed in late summer, after snowmelt runoff was complete and as the streams approached baseflow conditions.
This data release provides digital flight-line and gridded data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over the southwestern portion of the Colorado Mineral Belt, southwestern Colorado. The Colorado Mineral Belt is a broad, northeast-southwest trending alignment of historic mining districts that have produced multiple types of commodities, including critical minerals that are vital to the Nation's security and economy. The survey was acquired as part of the UGSS Earth Mapping Resource Initiative (Earth MRI) to improve our understanding of the fundamental geologic framework underpinning the Colorado Mineral Belt. This release covers the southwestern portion of the belt (southwest block), which...

Magnetic data collected as part of a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over the southwest portion of the Colorado Mineral Belt in southwestern Colorado are provided as digital flight-line and grid files. Magnetic surveys measure subtle variations in the Earth’s magnetic field and are sensitive to differences in the magnetic properties of rocks from ground level to many kilometers below. Data for this survey were acquired by NV5 Geospatial, Inc. and is sub-contractors Precision GeoSurveys, Inc. and EDCON-PRJ, Inc under contract with the USGS. The survey was flown by helicopter in September and October of 2023. Magnetic data were measured from a magnetometer mounted in a stinger extending from...
