This study was conducted to evaluate the causality between energy consumption, GDP growth and carbon emissions for eight Asia-Pacific countries from 1971 to 2005 using the panel data. The results indicate that there are long-run equilibrium relationships between these variables. Additionally, causality from energy consumption to CO2 emissions was observed generally, but there were some opposite relationships also. Parameter estimations of the panel data model indicate that there are great differences in the carbon emissions, the efficiencies of energy use, carbon emissions of unit GDP and unit energy consumption between developed and developing countries. The base carbon emissions, per capita energy consumption...

This data depicts railroad locations (1:63,360) in Alaska as digitized primarily from 1:24,000, 1:63,360, and 1:250,000 USGS quadrangles. The source document that represented the newest information and best geographic location was used to capture the data. All infrastructure from the primary source document was digitized and then supplemented with the information from other source documents for additional or updated infrastructure or attributes.
Communication antenna towers registered with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) program. The FCC requires that all towers >200 ft tall and towers <200 ft that are positioned in the glide path of an airport be registered with the FCC ASR program. Therefore, this data set does not necessarily depict all communication antennas actually present on the landscape. The source data are updated weekly by the FCC as new permits are issued. However, this data set is designed for a specific analysis, and is planned to remain static as of the publication date (11/06/2003).

Communication antenna towers recorded by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's International Bureau Filing System (IBFS) - 47 CFR Parts 73/74, 23 and 25 (Earth Stations). Note that not all antennas and towers are required to be registered with the FCC. Therefore, this data set does not necessarily depict ALL communication features actually present on the landscape. The source data are updated daily by the FCC as new permits are issued. However, this data set is designed for a specific analysis, and is planned to remain static as of the publication date (11/06/2003).

The goals of this project were to: (1) produce a state-of-the-art assessment and synthesis of climate change projections, impacts, vulnerabilities, adaptive capacity, and prospects for mitigation and adaptation actions in the Southwest in support of the regional contribution to the National Climate Assessment; (2) develop an inventory of federal partners and stakeholders involved with climate adaptation programs, and (3) forge stronger bonds between the DOI-SW CSC, the three NOAA-RISAs in the Southwest, and the Landscape Conservation Cooperatives.
This project used species distribution modeling, population genetics, and geospatial analysis of historical vs. modern vertebrate populations to identify climate change refugia and population connectivity across the Sierra Nevada. It is hypothesized that climate change refugia will increase persistence and stability of populations and, as a result, maintain higher genetic diversity. This work helps managers assess the need to include connectivity and refugia in climate change adaptation strategies. Results help Sierra Nevada land managers allocate limited resources, aid future scenario assessment at landscape scales, and develop a performance measure for assessing resilience.

Number of fatal highway accidents and alcohol-related accidents by county for 1998 and 1999, expressed as automobile fatalities as a percent of total county populations. The data source used to create the data was the U.S. Department of Transportation, Bureau of Tranportation Statistics, Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS): http://www.fars.nhtsa.dot.gov.
Despite the growing interest in biorenewable energy at society, policy, and industry level, many people still know very little about alternatives to fossil fuels, particularly biofuels. This perspective assesses and discusses the needs of citizens and future consumers for more information on biofuels. Using empirical data collected from a sample (n = 260) of fuel consumers in Flanders, Belgium, this perspective first demonstrates that information insufficiency (the gap between consumers' need for information and their perceived knowledge) is a good predictor of information-seeking behavior, specifically in the case of biofuels. Secondly, it shows that women, older, and less educated people report higher levels of...

Data are presented on the physiological diagnostics of cyanobacterial communication with higher plants in natural symbioses (plant syncyanoses) and in model associations, as well as on the interaction of the partners without spatial integration. Emphasis is placed on changes in cyanobacterial features important for symbiogenesis. The multicomponent composition and the possible nature of the factors that enable partner communications are discussed with hormogonia formation and taxis as an example. Published in Microbiology, volume 75, issue 4, on pages 465 - 469, in 2006.

This dataset depicts roads of Belize. According to Hipolito Contreras of the Belize Land Information Centre (personal communication 2005), the roads of Belize coverage is one of a few base layers developed by the U.K. Directorate of Overseas Surveys (DOS), based on the 1:50,000 OS topographic sheets and deposited directly at the Land Information Centre (LIC) at its inception in 1992. The version presented here - was made public through release of this dataset to the CCAD - the Central American Commission on Environment & Development.
This project uses bottom-up modeling at a parcel scale to measure the effects of sea-level rise (SLR) on coastal ecosystems and tidal salt marshes. At selected tidal marshes, the project team will measure several parameters that will be incorporated into ArcGIS models creating comparable datasets across the Pacific coast tidal gradient with a focus on 2-4 sites in the California LCC (e.g. San Diego, San Francisco Bay Refuges). The ultimate goal is to provide science support tools for local adaptation planning from the bottom-up that may be implemented under a structured decision-making framework.Science Delivery Phase (2013): The objectives are to: (1) Disseminate site-specific baseline data and modeling results,...
