This research investigates how changes to floodplains in the Connecticut River Basin impact flood events. Potential future conditions and impacts are evaluated using a HEC-RAS 2D model to apply a range of land use scenarios differing in area of field and floodplain forest along the river. For each land use scenario, the three evaluated flood events have return intervals of 1-yr, 10-yr, and 100-yr. The metrics presented in this dataset are the resulting streamflow and stage along the Maidstone Bends floodplains of the Connecticut River, for each flood event in each land use scenario.
This data release provides data in support of an assessment of changes in slope of the concentration-discharge relation for total organic carbon in eight major rivers at gaging stations in Connecticut from October 1972 to September 2019 (U.S. Geological Survey water years 1973 to 2019). The rivers include the Connecticut at Thompsonville (01184000), Housatonic at Stevenson (01205500), Quinebaug at Jewett City (01127000), Farmington at Tariffville (01189995), Shetucket at Willamantic (01122500), Naugatuck at Beacon Falls (011208500), Quinnipiac at Wallingford (01196500), and Salmon at East Hampton (01193500). The assessment is described in the article “An increase in the slope of the concentration discharge relation...

Data is included for three sets of laboratory experiments where various fish species were tested in several multi-week trials to determine their suitability in serving as parasitic hosts for larvae of the freshwater mussel named dwarf wedgemussel (Alasmidonta heterodon) from the Mid-Atlantic region and New England of the United States. The first set of experiments tested host suitability of multiple fish species, the second compared host suitability of groups of tessellated darters (Etheostoma olmstedi; a known host) from multiple locations, and the third tested host suitability of individual tessellated darters. Results are reported in numbers of juvenile mussels per fish (JPF; total juvenile mussels produced by...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This data layer shows the generalized lithologic and geochemical (lithogeochemical) character of near-surface bedrock in the Connecticut, Housatonic, and Thames River Basins and several other small basins that drain into Long Island Sound from Connecticut. The area includes most of Connecticut, western Massachusetts, eastern Vermont, western New Hampshire, and small parts of Rhode Island, New York, and Quebec, Canada. Bedrock geologic...
