This dataset contains daily estimates of erosion for select time windows at four sites along the back barrier margin of Cumberland Island National Seashore (CUIS). The four locations selected for instrumentation are referenced by the name of the general area where they were located and are as follows: Brickhill Bluff (bb), Dungeness Wharf (dw), Plum Orchard (po), and Racoon Key (rk). Additionally, this dataset provides offsets that were used to correct the photo-electric erosion pin (PEEP) erosion values to those measured in the field. Using the offsets and magnitude of erosion between site visits, a running cumulative sum of erosion is also provided.

This dataset represents the shoreline positions that were surveyed at the beginning and end of a one year study of erosion along the back barrier (western shoreline) of Cumberland Island National Seashore (CUIS). Additionally, this dataset also contains projected shoreline positions for the year 2050 and 2100 derived from erosion rates observed in this study and the R package - Analysis of Moving Boundaries Using R (AMBUR). To determine shoreline positions, points were surveyed along the edge of the margin scarp using either a Trimble R8 Real-Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK GPS) unit, a Trimble S6 total station, or both. Points were then converted to a polyline feature to represent the position and...

This data release contains four data files that were used to evaluate the conditions during which erosion occurred and the magnitude of erosional events. A single shapefile contains shoreline positions for five sites measured during the beginning and end of the project and projected shoreline positions based on the observed erosion rates. There are three .csv files that contain measured erosion pin data, photo-electric erosion pin data, and acoustic energy and water level data.

This dataset contains average sound intensity (in decibels full scale) for time windows when the water level was at or above the margin toe at four sites - Brickhill Bluff (bb), Dungeness Wharf (dw), Plum Orchard (po), and Racoon Key (rk) - along the back barrier margin of CUIS. Data were recorded with submerged hydrophones connected to a continuously recording data-logger. Additionally, this dataset presents average water level conditions when sound measurements were recorded.

This dataset contains cumulative erosion magnitude measured at individual erosion pins at select sites along the western margin of CUIS. Additionally, the data are presented as rates and summarized to the site level to facilitate comparison with other methods used to estimate erosion with slightly varying temporal ranges.
