The current database consists of location 9,032 entries. The surface-based, point data include 5,272, 6,939, and 903 density, magnetic susceptibility, and NRM measurements, respectively. Downhole data from 146 drillcore have also been incorporated, yielding an additional 1,145 and 9,622 measurements of density and magnetic susceptibility, respectively. Geologic interpretation of gravity and magnetic anomaly data in a given area is greatly enhanced if density, magnetic susceptibility (MS) and natural remanent magnetization (NRM) data are available for representative rock-types (Chandler and others, 2008). Along with geologic information from outcrop and drill-holes, rock property data help relate geophysical anomaly...

Map of Brewer's sparrow density (birds/ha) in relation to vegetation, abiotic, and anthropogenic features. These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release.
Map of sage thrasher density (birds/ha) in relation to vegetation, abiotic, and anthropogenic features. Researchers at the U.S. Forest Service Southern Research Station have utilized the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) to calculate a suite of land cover and forest fragmentation metrics at landscape scales. These datasets yield rich spatial information about urbanization, its effects on forests, and how urban areas interface and mix with rural, agricultural, and forest landscapes. The Forest Area Density (FDEN) map (Landscape Forest Density) illustrates the proportion of the landscape around a given forest area that is also forested. Areas with low forest density may be fragmented by agricultural land use and/or urban and exurban development. FDEN map is colored according to the amount of other forest in a surrounding...

USFS Forest Inventory Analysis Through application of a nearest-neighbor imputation approach, mapped estimates of forest carbon density were developed for the contiguous United States using the annual forest inventory conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program, MODIS satellite imagery, and ancillary geospatial datasets. The U.S. has been providing national-scale estimates of forest carbon stocks and stock change to meet United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change reporting requirements for years. Although these currently are provided as national estimates by pool and year to meet greenhouse gas monitoring requirements, there is growing...

Map of Sage sparrow density (birds/ha) in relation to vegetation, abiotic, and anthropogenic features. These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release.
This data release contains one shapefile describing cattle access to a total of 36 different sub basins within the Shenandoah Watershed located in Virginia and West Virginia. This data release identifies areas in satellite imagery where cattle were observed to have access to the stream (confirmed access), areas where cattle exist, and are not fenced off from the stream (unrestricted access), and areas where cattle do not have access to the stream (restricted access) at the time of imagery capture. Streams were defined using a combination of geospatial data and visually assessing channel morphology in aerial imagery. Cattle access points were determined by visually assessing satellite imagery for barren or disturbed...
The American Community Survey (ACS) is a national, publicly available survey provided by the U.S. Census Bureau that collects information about population, education, housing, economic status, and more. Planners, public officials, entrepreneurs, and researchers rely on the data collected through this survey to help understand community conditions and to support community planning efforts. This dataset shows human population density per square mile in 2013.

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides salinity and density data collected at Great Salt Lake (GSL), Utah monitoring locations during 2021–2022. Temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen were collected using an In-Situ AquaTROLL 600. Sample density was measured using an Anton Paar DMA 35Ex at 5° increments between 5° and 40° C. Practical salinity was measured at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science using a Guideline Salinometer. These data were used to validate the equation of state for Great Salt Lake at salinities higher than the established range, 23–182 g/L (Naftz, et al, 2011). Data supports increasing the upper density range from 1.145...

Using GIS, the SILVIS Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison calculated housing and population counts at the block group level with data from the decennial U.S. Census to produce a spatially explicit dataset for the conterminous U.S. This data can help to understand where on the landscape the most and the least dense populations of people live. Housing density can be used as an indicator of urbanization and land-use intensification.

In 1976-1981, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service conducted systematic surveys of forest birds and plant communities on all of the main Hawaiian Islands as part of the Hawaii Forest Bird Surveys (HFBS; Scott, J.M., S. Mountainspring, F.L. Ramsey, and C.B. Kepler. 1986. Forest bird communities of the Hawaiian Islands: their dynamics, ecology, and conservation. Studies in Avian Biology 9:1-431. See also: http://scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu/bitstream/handle/10125/4192/068.pdf?sequence=1). Results of this monumental effort have guided conservation efforts and provided the basis for many plant and bird recovery plans and land acquisition decisions in Hawaii during the past two decades. Data approved for public release,...
