The consequence of the 1996 Buffalo Creek wildfire disturbance and a subsequent high-intensity summer convective rain storm (~100 mm h-1) was the deposition of a sediment superslug in the Spring Creek basin (26.8 km2) of the Front Range Mountains in Colorado. Changes in the superslug near the confluence of Spring Creek with the South Platte River were monitored by cross-section surveys at 18 nearly equally-spaced cross sections along a 1500 m study reach for 18 years (1996-2014) to understand the evolution and internal stratigraphy of this type of disturbance in response to different geomorphic processes. The U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with American Rivers and other partners, conducted a monitoring program beginning in 2010 to track river response to a series of dam removals on the Patapsco River intended to restore anadromous fish habitat in the watershed. Dam removals included the November 2010 removal of the Simkins dam, a 3.3 m tall and 66 m wide dam, with a reservoir sediment volume of ~67,000 cubic meters. As part of the dam removal monitoring program, three USGS streamgaging stations were established in late 2010 along the mainstem of the Patapsco River to estimate flow and suspended sediment-transport for constraining sediment budgets. Description of Work U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) will identify through this project significant sources and impacts of historical and newly emerging toxics to the Great Lakes ecosystem through broad surveillance as well as laboratory and field research of tree swallows and other bird species. USGS scientists will determine the amount of exposure to and the effects of historical and emerging contaminants in Great Lakes food chains. This data set presents the lithologic interpretation of rock cores from boreholes 83BR-89BR collected from the mudstone aquifer underlying the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), West Trenton, NJ. Continuous core from these boreholes was collected and visually interpreted to identify characteristics of the depositional environment of the mudstone. Three types of mudstone were identified: a black-fissile mudstone (BLK-FIS); a gray-laminated mudstone (GRY-LAM); and a gray massive mudstone (GRY-MAS). This is a polygon coverage of sand deposits from the 2011 Missouri River flood. The polygon coverages were compiled from classification of 26 multispectral SPOT (Système Pour l’Observation de la Terre) 4 and 5 satellite images colleted during October and November, 2011. The dataset covers 1,298 km of the Missouri River valley bottom from Gavins Point Dam in South Dakota to the confluence with the Mississippi River near St. Louis, Missouri. The National Atmospheric Deposition Program/National Trends Network (NADP/NTN) was initiated in 1978 by the Association of State Agricultural Experiment Stations to monitor long-term atmospheric chemistry and the effects pollutants have on aquatic and terrestrial systems. As of fall 2023, precipitation was being collected at approximately 260 NTN sites in the United States, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and additionally Bermuda and Canada. This data release consists of four Excel files (one for each cross section) containing worksheets corresponding to each channel cross-section survey (~25-31) between 1996 and 2014. These worksheets contain the basic survey data (dates, instruments, reference elevations, foresights, distances from reference pins, and elevations). An additional worksheet contains the measured unit-volume (m^3/m) of chronostratigraphic units deposited during the time interval between two sequential surveys and the unit-volumes of each chronostratigraphic unit eroded during the same time interval. A final worksheet contains the age and transit-time distributions for selected surveys.

In October 2023, the U.S. Geological Survey Idaho Water Science Center (IDWSC), in cooperation with Lucky Peak Power Plant Project (LPPPP), completed bathymetric and topographic surveys at two dam intake structures using multibeam bathymetry and boat-mounted Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR). Dam operators indicated a possibility that sediment aggradation was occurring near the intake structures that allow water to pass through the dam. The bathymetric and topographic data generally include complete coverage near the intake structures and banklines near Lucky Peak Dam.
