Note cross-bedding of Permian De Chelly Sandstone, vertical streaking by stain of water trickling over the sides of the canyon. Also, termination of part of the heavy band above and to the right of the cliff dwelling at the base of a sandstone bed shows possible entry of water into the cliff, the cause of the alcove formation.
