Land management practices often directly alter vegetation structure and composition, but the degree to which ecological processes such as herbivory interact with management to influence biodiversity is less well understood. We hypothesized that intensive forest management and large herbivores have compounding effects on early-seral plant communities and plantation establishment (i.e., tree survival and growth), and the degree of such effects is dependent on the intensity of management practices. We established 225 m2 wild ungulate (deer and elk) exclosures nested within a manipulated gradient of management intensity (no-spray Control, Light herbicide, Moderate herbicide and Intensive herbicide treatments), replicated...

This data set contains imagery from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP). The NAIP program is administered by USDA FSA and has been established to support two main FSA strategic goals centered on agricultural production. These are, increase stewardship of America's natural resources while enhancing the environment, and to ensure commodities are procured and distributed effectively and efficiently to increase food security. The NAIP program supports these goals by acquiring and providing ortho imagery that has been collected during the agricultural growing season in the U.S. The NAIP ortho imagery is tailored to meet FSA requirements and is a fundamental tool used to support FSA farm and conservation programs....

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a fatal, contagious, neuro-degenerative disease affecting multiple members of the Family Cervidae. First detected in 1967, the disease has, as of March 2021, been documented in free-ranging and/or captive cervid populations in 26 states, three Canadian provinces, the Republic of South Korea, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The data provided here contains information on the known, available, documented distribution of CWD in the United States that is current as of the publication date. The USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) tracks changes to the known distribution of CWD in the form of a map (available on the NWHC website at https://www.usgs.gov/centers/nwhc/science/expanding-distribution-chronic-wasting-disease.

This data set represents the 2010 white-tailed deer seasonal range boundaries for Wyoming. Seasonal range delineations depict lands that are important in each season for certain biological processes within a herd unit. Seasonal range boundaries are based on long-term observation data, specific research projects, and professional judgement. Ranges are digitized at a scale of 1:100,000 using USGS 1:100,000 DRGs as a backdrop for heads up digitizing, and are revised as needed by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Current seasonal range definitions are based on a 1990 document drafted by the Wyoming Chapter of The Wildlife Society in cooperation with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and federal land agencies.

The strength of top-down forces in terrestrial food webs is highly debated as there are few examples illustrating the role of largemammalian carnivores in structuring biotic and abiotic systems. Based on the results of this studywe hypothesize that an increase in human visitation within Zion Canyon of Zion National Park ultimately resulted in a catastrophic regime shift through pathways involving trophic cascades and abiotic environmental changes. Increases in human visitors in Zion Canyon apparently reduced cougar (Puma concolor) densities, which subsequently led to higher mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) densities, higher browsing intensities and reduced recruitment of riparian cottonwood trees (Populus fremontii),...

This coverage does not include white-tailed deer winter ranges within Tribal lands/Indian Reservations or National Park Service lands. Winter range polygons represent areas occupied by white-tailed deer from roughly November 15 to March 1. Not all polygons in this coverage represent winter range. The polygon attribute to select winter range for white-tailed deer is USE. NOTE: white-tailed deer winter ranges east of the continental divide vary greatly from year to year and therefore are not always delineated in the coverage...this does not necessarily mean there is no winter range in a given area.

Mule Deer modeled corridors in Colorado by the Southern Rockies Ecosystem Project (now Center for Native Ecosystems) encompassing the most important expert and model identified corridors from the Linking Colorado's Landscapes project that cross highways. The modeled corridors represent the corridors that were modeled using the Corridor Design tool http://corridordesign.org

This coverage represents density per square mile. It does not include densities or overall distribution within Tribal lands/Indian Reservations or National Park Service lands. Overall distribution polygons represent general or year round habitat. Not all polygons represent overall distribution. The polygon attribute used to select overall distribution is USE. The polygon attribute used to identify density is CLASS. Note: Densities are accurate as of 1994-1995 and may not reflect current densities.
