This thematic map illustrates the population density in the United States in 2010. Population density is the number of people per square mile. Population density is calculated by dividing the total population count of geographic feature by the area of the feature, in square miles. The area is calculated from the geometry of the geographic feature in projected coordinates. This map shows Esri's 2010 estimates using Census 2000 geographies. The geography depicts States at greater than 25m scale, Counties at 750k to 25m scale, Census Tracts at 150k to 750km scale, and Census B This thematic map illustrates the population density in the United States in 2010. This metadata record describes a series of data sets of natural and anthropogenic landscape features linked to NHDPlus Version 2.1’s (NHDPlusV2) approximately 2.7 million stream segments, their associated catchments, and their upstream watersheds within the conterminous United States. The data were linked to four spatial components of NHDPlusV2: individual reach catchments, riparian buffer zones around individual reaches, reach catchments accumulated downstream through the river network, and riparian buffer zones accumulated downstream through the river network. All data can be linked to NHDPlus using the COMID field in these tables and the ComID in the flowline shapefiles or FEATUREID in the catchment ones in the...

This project supported a climate assessment workshop for the Northwest region. The workshop brought together regional stakeholders interested in understanding regional climate impacts and identifying strategies for adapting resources to changing conditions. The workshop also initiated a process of participatory activities and communication about the climate assessment, which helped contribute to the broader National Climate Assessment (NCA). By discussing adaptive management solutions with regional stakeholders, the workshop provided regional case study results to the NCA, such as information on local lessons and best practices. Specific workshop objectives included (1) convening and launching a process for coordinating...

This roads dataset for Wyoming has been extracted from the U.S. Census TIGER/Line shapefiles (http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger) and is avialable here as a statewide dataset. Data for each county was merged to create the statewide dataset. Road data was then extracted from the 'edges' (attribute: roadflg, 'Y') line data by WyGISC. Attributes deemed unecessary were removed by WyGISC. For the original data, visit the tiger data website listed above. The TIGER/Line Shapefiles are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the Census MAF/TIGER database. The Census MAF/TIGER database represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts. However, each TIGER/Line Shapefile...

The Appalachian region is rich in biodiversity that is highly threatened by energy production, development, and a host of other factors. Large-scale impacts such as climate change will play out within this context, affecting habitats and species in different ways. Understanding the vulnerability of various species and habitats within the Appalachian LCC to such changes is of critical importance. Identifying the steps needed to acquire vulnerability information and then using this information to inform adaptation and mitigation strategies is a major research priority of the LCC.The Appalachian LCC provided a grant to NatureServe to conduct critical vulnerability assessments. Researchers first convened a panel of...

This thematic map illustrates the U.S. median household income in 2010. Median household income for the U.S. in 2010 is $54,442, down very slightly from the 2009 figure of $54,719. Information for the 2010 Median Household Income is an estimate of income for calendar year 2010. Income amounts are expressed in current dollars, including an adjustment for inflation or cost-of-living increases. These data were compiled to allow examination of northern spotted owl territorial occupancy dynamics, especially with regards to the roles played by habitat and competition with barred owl in past and future dynamics. Data are estimates of parameters derived from previous modelling of northern spotted owl territorial occupancy dynamics. These data were collected as part of monitoring of northern spotted owl demography. Associated code allows analysis of these estimates to understand the roles of competition and habitat in recent northern spotted owl declines and to predict the future of northern spotted owl under various management scenarios.

A tribal block group (BG) is a cluster of census blocks having the same first digit of their four-digit identifying numbers and are within a single tribal census tract. The optimum size for a tribal BG is 1,000 people; it must contain a minimum of 300 people. The difference between a tribal BG and a nontribal BG is in the hierarchical presentation of the data. A tribal BG is part of the American Indian hierarchy; that is, the tribal BG is within a tribal census tract that is within a federally recognized American Indian reservation and/or off-reservation trust land.

To date, hydrological and ecological models have been developed independently from each other, making their application particularly challenging for interdisciplinary studies. The objective of this project was to synthesize and evaluate prevailing hydrological and ecological models in the South-Central U.S., particularly the southern Great Plains region. This analysis aimed to identify the data requirements and suitability of each model to simulate stream flow while addressing associated changes in the ecology of stream systems, and to portray climate variability and uncertainty. The results and deliverables of this project are expected to include a comprehensive, updated, and systematic report on recent developments...

These data were compiled to investigate the demographic, phylogeographic, and adaptation history of Hilaria jamesii. The data release consists of three tab delimited text files that may be used to infer population structure or putative adaptive loci (hija_adaptation_dataset.stru), relationships among sampling localities (hija_phylogeny_dataset.phylip), or genetic diversity statistics (hija_diversity_stats.vcf). All files record genetic variation on an individual (.stru and .vcf) or sampling locality (.phylip) level. The .vcf file contains all of the information contained in the other files, but the file structures vary based on the programs used for analysis. These files may be opened and edited in a text editor...
