There are 6 datasets total that together represent sediment placement in the North and Mid-Atlantic: Proposed Sediment Placement (points, lines, and polygons) and Sediment Placement (points, lines, and polygons). These data are part of a broader project: Inventory of Habitat Modifications to Sandy Oceanfront Beaches in the U.S. Atlantic Coast Breeding Range of the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus) as of 2015: Maine to North Carolina. An estimate of the length of sandy oceanfront beaches that have received or continue to receive sediment placement from Maine through North Carolina was compiled. Only ocean-facing shorelines or those directly exposed to Long Island Sound or the Peconic Estuary were included in this...

Unaltered Beach This layer is an outdated version of one of the South Atlantic LCC indicators in the beach and dune ecosystem. It is an index of altered beaches capturing impacts from hardened structures like jetties, groins, and infrastructure. This indicator was updated in Blueprint 2.2 to incorporate more recent data from the Coastal Barrier Resources System, which is used to set the boundaries of undeveloped beaches. The updated indicator was also extended to new areas of the beach and dune ecosystem map. Reason for Selection Altered beaches (including human developments along shorelines, jetties, groins, seawalls, revetments, and other structures) provide a measure of overall habitat alteration. Human infrastructure...

The Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) program was developed by Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and is implemented as a component of the System Wide Assessment and Monitoring Program (SWAMP). The program uses both historical data and contemporary data collections to assess and monitor changes in the aerial and subaqueous extent of islands, habitat types, sediment texture and geotechnical properties, environmental processes, and vegetation composition. Examples of BICM datasets include still and video aerial photography for documenting shoreline changes, shoreline positions, habitat mapping, land change analyses, light detection and ranging (lidar) surveys for topographic...

The data are from the Sediment Placement Projects on Sandy Beaches in the U.S. Atlantic Coast Breeding Range of the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus) prior to Hurricane Sandy. This dataset represents the approximate locations of sediment placement projects along the U.S. North Atlantic coast from Maine through Virginia prior to the time that Hurricane Sandy made landfall in October 2012.The sediment placement projects were identified as part of an inventory of habitat modifications to sandy beach habitat within the U.S. Atlantic Coast breeding range of the federally-threatened piping plover. Sediment placement projects included in the inventory were beach nourishment projects, storm damage reduction projects, beneficial...

The Mars Global Digital Dune Database provides a comprehensive and quantitative view of the geographic distribution of dune fields from 65° N to 65° S latitude. The database encompasses ~ 550 dune fields, covering ~ 70,000 km2, with an estimated total volume between 3,600 km3 and 13,400 km3. Over 2300 selected Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) infrared (IR), THEMIS visible (VIS) and Mars Orbiter Camera Narrow Angle (MOC NA) images were used to build the database and are included in the ArcMap and ArcReader versions of the database. An initial data set of THEMIS band 9 spectral range images covering orbits 816-9601 (spanning 02/2002 - 02/2004 and Ls = 0.085º-358.531º) and comprising more than 30,000 images...

This data release provides greenness for the dune crest and nearby backslope of the dune estimated from cloud-free 30-m satellite imagery during the hurricane seasons for 2008 and 2009 for East and West Ship Island, Mississippi. These data also include dune crest elevation from September 2008 produced by the U.S. Geological Survey (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7GF0S0Z).
