Landscape Conservation Cooperatives are public-private partnerships composed of federal, state, and local governments, Tribes and First Nations, non-governmental organizations, universities, interested public and private organizations, international jurisdictions, and others working together to address landscape and seascape scale conservation issues. However, numerous approaches to landscape conservation design (LCD) exist and the nuances among these efforts makes integration of LCD with other planning efforts and products, both within and across Landscape Conservation Cooperative boundaries, a challenge. We reviewed and synthesized information on LCD projects in the eastern United States to better understand challenges...

This report summarizes the methods and results of utilizing the Edwards to Gulf Conservation Blueprint to achieve specific tasks for various conservation entities. The goal of this effort is to provide real world examples of the use of our spatial products to ensure that stakeholders understand how to use and incorporate the blueprint into their own decision-making processes. This report covers a suite of demonstration projects that illustrate a variety of tasks likely to be of interest to the broader stakeholder community. These include using the habitat protection rankings to prioritize areas within a predefined focal area within the Edwards to Gulf region (Figure 1), mapping a route of least impact for a proposed...

A social network analysis maps out the who, what, and where of conservation collaboration, helping us to think more strategically about conservation at the landscape scale by identifying who entities collaborate with, and the conservation priorities, strategies, capacity needs, strengths, and geographic areas of interest. For more information on the larger Pacific Northwest Coast Landscape Conservation Design project that the Social Network Analysis is a part of please see the project website: http://columbiacoastblueprint.org/

The spatial products described here prioritize different types of conservation actions for six broadly defined habitats (Table 1-1; Appendix Table A-1). We identified these habitat types as the conservation targets of the Edwards to Gulf Landscape Conservation Design (LCD) through a participatory process (Tarbox et al. 2018). We then conducted a viability assessment of each conservation target by identifying their key ecological attributes (KEAs), and appropriate indicators. We then assessed the status of KEAs to determine the ecological integrity of each habitat type (FOS 2013). For further information on the development of ecological integrity ratings, please see our other document (Tarbox et al. 2019).

Together in partnership with Mississippi State University (MSU) and locally based social scientists, U.S. Fish and WildlifeService (FWS) Southeast Region social scientists will identify and implement methods and tools within the social sciencesto address the most pressing priorities of the region, including enhancing public perception of decisions related tohabitat conservation and threatened, endangered, and at-risk species, effectively engaging historically underservedprivate landowners, and addressing climate change adaptation across the region, particularly in underserved urbancommunities. Social scientists within relevant organizations, institutions, and communities will be engaged as needed todevelop specific...

The Edwards to Gulf Conservation Blueprint represents a participatory effort to develop a suite of decision support tools that facilitate cooperation between conservation partners in the region. The blueprint was created in a transparent and iterative process, building upon a previously existing coarse filter blueprint to generate a fine filter by increasing the spatial resolution, and number and variety of indicators used. This iteration of the blueprint focused on a subset of habitats within the region (floodplain forests, freshwater wetlands, major rivers, rice agriculture, tallgrass prairie, and tidal wetlands), with an emphasis on rpomoting conservation of focal species identified by the Gulf Coast Prairie...

The spatial products described here rate the ecological integrity of six broadly defined habitats (Table 1-1; Appendix Table A-1). We selected these habitats as conservation targets for the Edwards to Gulf Landscape Conservation Design (LCD) through a participatory process (Tarbox et al. 2018). We then conducted a viability assessment of each habitat by identifying their key ecological attributes (KEAs), and appropriate indicators. We assessed the status of KEAs to determine the ecological integrity of each habitat type (FOS 2013). We selected KEAs by prioritizing the needs of relevant focal species (Table 1-1). The Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) selected focal species for a geography...
