The Waters of the United States (WOTUS), or Clean Water Rule, defines which wetlands are under the jurisdiction of the federal government for regulating provisions of the Clean Water Act of 1972. Due to court decisions and administrative changes, the definitions currently in use varies across the United States. The most recent Clean Water Rule, 2015, is in effect for 22 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories. The remaining 28 states, including Nebraska, are regulated under the 1986/1988 regulatory definition of Waters of the United States, 40 CFR 230.3(s) (EPA 2019). However, in February of April 2019, the two lead federal agencies, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of...

This is an ArcGIS shapefile which depicts the seasonal salinity dynamics of 32 Gulf of Mexico estuaries. To characterize the dynamic nature of estuarine salinity gradients, a multivariate methodology (Bulger et al. 1993) was applied to derive five bio-salinity zones in four salinity seasons for 32 Gulf of Mexico estuaries (Christensen et al. 1997). This seasonal salinity zone spatial framework built upon and refined earlier studies which characterized salinity on an annual-averaged basis (NOAA 1985, Orlando et al. 1993, NOAA 2007). Precipitation, flow gage data, and monthly salinity averages were evaluated to determine which months would be used to represent the high, low, and transitional (increasing and decreasing)...

The Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative Grasslands Map symbolizes grasslands from both the USGS National Land Cover Dataset and INEGI Uso de Suelo y vegetación datasets. The two datasets are displayed side by side at the US-Mexico border. The data are displayed at a regional scale (1:2,500,000). The files provided are graphic design files that can be used to plot a publication-quality, poster-size map. Scale: 1:2,500,000 Map poster dimensions: 34 x 44 inches Data sources: Land cover and Grassland Priority Conservation Areasare from the North American Environmental Atlas by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, 2010. Hydrography, roads, populated places, and political boundaries are from the National...

Pilot areas A and B produced in site selection process and analysis was centered on input criteria from DLCC stakeholders for the best representation of the desert land cover and priority habitats. The input from the DLCC stakeholders was compiled into a Weighted Matrix. The Weighted Matrix was ranked (with values assigned between 1 and 10) based on the level of importance held by the criteria and based on the datasets used for analysis.

In September 2013 the Springs Stewardship Institute received funding from the BOR to map springs and springs-dependent species in the DLCC. Since then we have configured our server, migrated our geodatabase to an ArcSDE, and published several WMS and WFS to our domain at https://arcgis.springsdata.org/arcgis/rest/services . This includes a WMS of springs in the DLCC that we have also made available through ArcGIS Online at http://bit.ly/1k6zo7p . We have also migrated our non-spatial survey data to an online application at http://springsdata.org/index.php . This is a user-friendly interface for a MySQL database that includes georeferencing, geomorphology, flow, flora, fauna, water quality, and condition assessment...

The Midwest Landscape Initiative (MLI) developed a Regional Species of Greatest Conservation Need (RSGCN) List to provide an effective, collaborative focus and approach for regional wildlife diversity conservation in the Midwest. The Midwest RSGCN effort applied a process initiated in the Northeast, advanced in the Southeast, and refined by the MLI At-Risk Species Working Group, to identify RSGCN for the Midwest. The Midwest RSGCN process evaluated 1,817 SGCN across 13 taxonomic groups and selected 340 as RSGCN. Taxa groups included mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crayfish, mussels, Odonates (dragonflies and damselflies), bumble and solitary bees, Lepidoptera (butterflies, skippers and moths), mayflies,...

This is an Rmarkdown file that maps the 2019 plot centers, creates plot polygons, and created the start and end coordinates of the distance sampling transects. Transect end points are written to a csv file for input in field GPS unit to guide field staff during surveys. Running this code will produce the file ‘transects.csv’.

The Desert Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) is a partnership formed and directed by resource management entities as well as interested public and private entities in the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan Desert and montane sky island regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Desert LCC science depends on access to transboundary base datasets. Given the importance of vegetation such as grasslands and riparian vegetation in conservation science, a bi-national, landscape-scale vegetation data layer with classes relevant to Desert LCC research is crucial. One objective of this project is to investigate appropriate methodologies and landscape scales to create a Desert LCC binational land cover...

The rate at which new information about stream resources is being created has accelerated with the recent development of spatial stream-network models (SSNMs), the growing availability of stream databases, and ongoing advances in geospatial science and computational efficiency. To further enhance information development, the National Stream Internet (NSI) project was developed as a means of providing a consistent, flexible analytical infrastructure that can be applied with many types of stream data anywhere in the country. A key part of that infrastructure is the NSI network, a digital GIS layer which has a specific topological structure that was designed to work effectively with SSNMs. The NSI network was derived...

Museum of Northern Arizona, Inc. will leverage tools previously developed by the Springs Stewardship Initiative to help resource managers in the southwestern U.S. collect, analyze, report upon, monitor and archive the complex and interrelated information associated with springs and spring-dependent species in the region. The information will be compiled and made readily available online. The Museum will further develop interactive online maps and climate change risk assessment tools of springs-dependent sensitive plant and animal species.

This web map service provides location data and related scanned documents pertaining to Kentucky’s ore mineral resources and their associated commodities including fluorite (fluorspar), galena (lead), sphalerite (zinc), barite, iron, nitrates, phosphates, titanium, uranium, and rare earth elements in igneous intrusions. These data are a digital compilation of spatially referenced point locations for all mapped mines, shafts, dikes, prospects, outcrops, core holes, and drill holes associated with the mineral ore industry of Kentucky. Also included are linear features of mineral veins and igneous dikes, as well as their respective areal extents. Much of these data, especially in the WKFD, were secured from maps, drill...

These 26 climate envelope models and associated “read me” file are described in the final report for the LCC-funded project, “Climate Envelope Models in Support of Landscape Conservation.” These climate envelope models describe the climate where each species currently lives and then map the geographic shift of that range under climate change. Multiple climage change scenarios inform these models. For more information please consult the final report for this project or the website, “Climate Envelope Modeling for Threatened and Endangered Species,” available at http://crocdoc.ifas.ufl.edu/projects/climateenvelopemodeling/.

This website accompanies task 1 as described in the final report, “Comparability of landscape connectivity products for large-scale landscape planning.” The website is a compilation of data on recent, ongoing, and planned landscape connectivity modeling studies across the Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) network. As of April 2014, we have compiled data from 73 studies of 116 species. The vast majority of studies use circuit theory or least-cost paths to model connectivity, but other approaches represented in the database include graph theory, resistant kernel models, and models of genetic relatedness.
