It has been shown that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 3060A does not adequately extract Cr(VI) from solids containing chromium ore processing residue (COPR). We systematically modified parameters of EPA 3060A towards improving extraction efficiency of Cr(VI) from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard reference material (SRM) 2701, a standard COPR-contaminated soil from New Jersey, USA. A material similar to NIST 2701 prepared in the laboratory from contaminated soil referred to as 2B was also analyzed. Extraction parameters tested were particle size, glass or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) extraction vessels, volume of extraction solution to mass of sample, and extraction...

The 303(d) Listed Impaired Waters program system provides impaired water data and impaired water features reflecting river segments, lakes, and estuaries designated under Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act. Each State will establish Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for these waters. Note the CWA Section 303(d) list of impaired waters does not represent waters that are impaired but have an EPA-approved TMDL established, impaired waters for which other pollution control mechanisms are in place and expected to attain water quality standards, or waters impaired as a result of pollution and is not caused by a pollutant. Therefore, the "Impaired Waters" layers do not represent all impaired waters reported in a state's...

The NHDPlus Version 1.0 is an integrated suite of application-ready geospatial data sets that incorporate many of the best features of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NHDPlus includes a stream network (based on the 1:100,000-scale NHD), improved networking, naming, and "value-added attributes" (VAA's). NHDPlus also includes elevation-derived catchments (drainage areas) produced using a drainage enforcement technique first broadly applied in New England, and thus dubbed "The New-England Method". This technique involves "burning-in" the 1:100,000-scale NHD and when available building "walls" using the national Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). The resulting modified...

Ecoregions of the SARP region based on Omernik (1987) attributed to NHDplus catchments. Ecoregions are areas with generally similar ecosystems and similar types, qualities, and quantities of environmental resources,. Ecoregion boundaries were determined by examining patterns of vegetation, animal life, geology, soils, water quality, climate, and human land use, as well as other living and non-living ecosystem components. Level IV ecoregions are delineated at the local scale. For more information about this attribute, visit http://www.epa.gov/wed/pages/ecoregions.htm and http://nationalatlas.gov/mld/ecoomrp.html.

These data can be used in a geographic information system (GIS) for any number of purposes such as assessing wildlife habitat, water quality, pesticide runoff, land use change, etc. The State data sets are provided with a 300 meter buffer beyond the State border to faciliate combining the State files into larger regions. The user must have a firm understanding of how the datasets were compiled and the resulting limitations of these data. The National Land Cover Dataset was compiled from Landsat satellite TM imagery (circa 1992) with a spatial resolution of 30 meters and supplemented by various ancillary data (where available). The analysis and interpretation of the satellite imagery was conducted using very large,...

To improve public health and the environment, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) collects information about facilities, sites, or places subject to environmental regulation or of environmental interest. Through the Geospatial Data Download Service, the public is now able to download the EPA Geodata shapefile containing facility and site information from EPA's national program systems. The file is Internet accessible from the Envirofacts Web site (http://www.epa.gov/enviro). The data may be used with geospatial mapping applications. (Note: The shapefile omits facilities without latitude/longitude coordinates.) The EPA Geospatial Data contains the name, location (latitude/longitude), and EPA...

The EnviroMapper tool combines interactive maps and aerial photography to display facility-based information from the Envirofacts Warehouse. There are now six geographically based selection options to help you zoom into areas of interest. Each option essentially does the same thing, offering maps and aerial photos that can be used to locate EPA regulated facilities. However, two options, "By Address" and "By Facility" have the potential to zoom to a point closer to or exactly on your facility.

This dataset was derived from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Emissions & Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID2012 Version 1.0). http://www.epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-resources/egrid/index.html These data were downloaded in MS EXCEL format and converted to a feature class in a geodatabase. eGRID2012 Version 1.0 is the eighth edition of eGRID, which contains the complete release of year 2009 data, as well as year 2007 data contained in eGRID2010 Version 1.1 that was released in May 2011, year 2005 data contained in eGRID2007 Version 1.1 that was released in January 2009, and year 2004 data contained in eGRID2006 Version 2.1 that was released in Spring 2007. This dataset was clipped to the Utah and Colorado Plateau Ecoregion study site boundary by Conservation Biology Institute. The Emissions and Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID) is a comprehensive source of data on the environmental characteristics of almost all electric power generated in the United States. These environmental characteristics include: air emissions for nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide;emissions rates; net generation; resource mix; and many other attributes.

The dataset represents hydrological features, extracted from the NHDPlus NHDWaterbody shapefile, that intersect a 1 mile interior coastline buffer along the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean coasts within our study area, from Texas to New Jersey. The NHDPlus NHDWaterbody shapefile describes NHD polygonal features of types: Playa, Ice Mass, LakePond, Reservoir, SwampMarsh, and Estuary. NHDPlus is a complex, nationwide dataset features that can be accessed here (last checked 06/16/10): http://www.horizon-systems.com/nhdplus/ . Its original metadata is included below. This map service is used in MyWATERS Mapper to display the NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit status of facilities by state. Water pollution degrades surface waters making them unsafe for drinking, fishing, swimming, and other activities. As authorized by the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program controls water pollution by regulating point sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States. Point sources are discrete conveyances such as pipes or man-made ditches. Individual homes This map service is used in MyWATERS Mapper to display the NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit status...
