This dataset tabulates input data for simulations of undiscovered copper resources in porphyry copper deposits that were done using the EMINERS computer program (Duval, J.S., 2012, Version 3.0 of EMINERS—Economic Mineral Resource Simulator: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2004–1344, http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2004/1344) as part of a global mineral resource assessment. ShakeMap is a product of the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program in conjunction with the regional seismic networks. ShakeMaps provide near-real-time maps of ground motion and shaking intensity following significant earthquakes. These maps are used by federal, state, and local organizations, both public and private, for post-earthquake response and recovery, public and scientific information, as well as for preparedness exercises and disaster planning.

The NEIC global earthquake bulletin is called the Preliminary Determination of Epicenters or PDE, and is one of many discrete products in the ANSS Comprehensive Catalog (ComCat). We use the word "Preliminary" for our final bulletin because the Bulletin of the International Seismological Centre is considered to be the final global archive of parametric earthquake data, in other words phase arrival (“pick”) times and amplitudes.

Compiled Vs30 measurements obtained by studies funded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and other governmental agencies. Thus far, there are 2,997 sites in the United States, along with metadata for each measurement from government-sponsored reports, Web sites, and scientific and engineering journals. Most of the data originated from publications directly reporting the work of field investigators. A small subset (less than 20 percent) of Vs30 values was previously compiled by the USGS and other research institutions. In response to the growing demand for information on the global mineral-resource base, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) completed assessments for undiscovered resources of selected types of mineral deposits (https://minerals.usgs.gov/global). This data release tabulates data for simulations of amounts of copper resources in undiscovered porphyry copper deposits that were done for the Global Mineral Resource Assessment. The scenes in this dataset were originally selected by Richard Irish, NASA-GSFC, and were derived manually from Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) Level 1G scenes by Pat Scaramuzza and Michelle Bouchard at the USGS EROS Center. Its purpose is train and validate cloud masking algorithms. Each product is provided as a thematic raster, and includes the classes of “cloud”, “thin cloud”, “clear”, and “fill”. While these validation images were subjectively digitized by a single analyst, they provide useful information for quantifying the accuracy of clouds flagged by various cloud masking algorithms. Magnetotelluric (MT) method is a branch of geophysics that employs very large-scale natural sources from the solar wind and lightning. Modern-day MT uses state-of-the-art instrumentation, data processing and analysis tools to provide valuable information about deep Earth structure, complimentary to that of seismic data. EXPO-CAT is a catalog of human exposure to discrete levels of shaking intensity, obtained by correlating Atlas ShakeMaps with a global population database. Combining this population exposure dataset with historical earthquake loss data provides a useful resource for calibrating loss methodologies against a systematically-derived set of ShakeMap hazard outputs. EXPO-CAT is derived from two key datasets: the PAGER-CAT earthquake catalog and the Atlas of ShakeMaps. The Global Vs30 Server allows a user to select from a map or input a rectangular region of interest. It then provides (optionally) a Vs30 grid in ASCII or GMT grid format, and a JPEG Vs30 map. Wald et al. (2004) first, and Wald and Allen (BSSA, 2007, in press), more fully, describe a methodology for deriving maps of seismic site conditions using topographic slope as a proxy. Vs30 measurements (the average shear-velocity down to 30 m) are correlated against topographic slope to develop two sets of coefficients for deriving Vs30: one for active tectonic regions that possess dynamic topographic relief, and one for stable continental regions where changes in topography are more subdued.

A Finite Fault is a modeled representation of the spatial extent, amplitude and duration of fault rupture (slip) of an earthquake, and is generated via the inversion of teleseismic body waveforms and long period surface waves. The USGS is offering earthquake alerts via two twitter accounts: @USGSted and @USGSBigQuakes. On average, @USGSted and @USGSBigQuakes will produce about one tweet per day, however, aftershocks following major earthquakes can greatly increase this number. Users interested in custom alerts based on specific geographic regions and magnitude thresholds should sign up for e-mail alerts distributed by our Earthquake Notification Service (ENS).

The ANSS Comprehensive Catalog (ComCat) contains earthquake source parameters and other products produced by contributing seismic networks. Important digital catalogs of earthquake source parameters (e.g. Centennial Catalog, Global Centroid Moment Tensor Catalog) are loaded into ComCat. New and updated data are added to the catalog dynamically as sources publish or update products. Access to the ComCat is via the online search page, on which a user can select a wide variety of criteria to locate earthquake events of interest. A revised version of the storm-time disturbance index Dst is calculated using hourly-mean magnetic-observatory data from four standard observatories and collected over the years 1958–2007. The calculation algorithm is a revision of that established by Sugiura et al., and which is now used by the Kyoto World Data Center for routine production of Dst. The most important new development is for the removal of solar-quiet variation. Provided here is a globally distributed catalog of earthquakes and nuclear explosions with calibrated hypocenters, referred to as the Global Catalog of Calibrated Earthquake Locations or GCCEL. This dataset contains more than 23,736 earthquakes in 344 well distributed clusters. Currently there are more than 4M arrival times with the majority being the Pg, Pn, P, Sg, Sn and S phases. The term “calibrated” refers to the property that the hypocenters are minimally biased by unknown Earth structure and that the uncertainties are meaningful.
