This shape file depicts the location of current easements on tide and submerged land issued by the State of Alaska. This dataset may be of interest to the conservation community because it contains areas that may be subject to some level of disturbance to or alteration of native vegetation or biotic community under the activities defined for this easement. Each location is represented as a linear feature and has an associated Land Administration System (LAS) file-type and file-number which serves as an index to associated LAS case-file information. Tidal easement features were converted from the digital (ArcInfo) files used to produce the state status plats. Additional LAS case-file and customer information may...

The use of digital information to aid in land management decision making has become a standardized practice over the last 20 years. However, gathering this information for regional and national level analysis is problematic due to the number of organizations holding and gathering data along with compatibility issues within the data. Protected lands are a key component to landscape conservation efforts of the LCC’s and are also one of the keys to developing a response to climate change impacts. Many efforts, such as the Protected Areas Database (PAD) created by the Conservation Biology Institute and USGS have been undertaken, but these have largely focused on lands conserved in fee. The National Conservation Easement...

The National Conservation Easement Database (NCED) is a collaborative venture to compile easement records (both spatial and tabular) from land trusts and public agencies throughout the United States in a single, up-to-date, sustainable, GIS compatible, online source. The goal of the NCED is to provide a comprehensive picture of the estimated 20 million acres of privately owned conservation easement lands, recognizing their contribution to America's natural heritage, a vibrant economy, and healthy communities. Conservation easements are legal agreements voluntarily entered into between landowners and conservation entities (agencies or land trusts) for the express purpose of protecting certain societal values such...
