This dataset is a polygon coverage of the thickness of the overburden of the Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed, in feet. It was produced by importing 1:100,000 (30-minute) and 1:24,000 scale (7.5-minute) digital elevation models (DEM) into ARC, and merging the lattices into one. The structure elevation grid for the Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed was subtracted from the surface elevation grid, creating overburden thickness. This grid was contoured within the known extent of the Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed into 200, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 foot lines. This vector file was imported to ARC. Polygon attributes include a code for the USGS overburden category (Coal Resource Classification of the U.S. Geological Survey, USGS, Circular...

This dataset is a collection of coal field locations in The Peoples Republic of China. Included in this dataset is the rank of the coal in each field.
This dataset is a collection of major coal mine productionlocated in The Peoples Republic of China. Included in thisdataset are the locations of major coal mines and theapproximate annual amount of coal mined annually in millionsof metric tons.
This dataset is a polygon coverage of the resource areas of the Lower Kittanning coal zone. The polygons are subdivided into 2 categories: resource areas inside the outcrop, and areas either too thin, outside the outcrop, or beyond data collection limits. The coal zone must contain at least 14 inches of coal to be a resource. This spatial data set of the Lower Kittanning coal bed and known mined areas is one of many Geographic Information System (GIS) products of the National Coal Assessment that is being conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with State geological surveys and other Federal and State agencies. The Lower Kittanning coal bed is an important economic coal in the northern part of the...

This dataset is a polygon coverage of minable thickness for the Pond Creek coal zone in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. The coverage was created by gridding 4,391 points and contouring the grid with 1.17-ft intervals. The polygons have elevation values halfway between the bounding contour arc values. This dataset honors data submitted for the asessment from the Kentucky Geological Survey; therefore contour lines may not match across State lines (see Process Steps). This map is one of many Geographic Information System (GIS) products of the National Coal Assessment that is being conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with State geological surveys and other Federal and State agencies. The Middle...

Coal-Bearing Regions and Structural Sedimentary Basins ofChina and Adjacent Seas: Energy commodities
This dataset is a collection of commodities (coal gas, oilshale, and quaternary peat) located in The Peoples Republicof China. Included in this dataset is the type of thecommodities.
This dataset is a polygon coverage of the mined areas of the Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed. The polygons are subdivided into 3 categories. These categories are areas where resources are mined underground, areas where resources are mined on the surface, and areas where resources are not mined. This map is one of many Geographic Information System (GIS) products of the National Coal Assessment that is being conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with State geological surveys and other Federal and State agencies. The Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed occurs within the Pocahontas Formation (Lower Pennsylvanian) and underlies all or parts of Wyoming, McDowell, Raleigh, Summers, Mercer, Greenbrier, Logan, and Mingo...

This dataset is a collection of structural sedimentarybasin locations in The Peoples Republic of China. Includedin this dataset are the age and name of each structuralsedimentary basin.
This dataset represents the thickness of the potentially minable Fire Clay coal benches in Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The coal zone is known by other names, depending upon locale. The data were comprised of values from Kentucky in EXCEL format, data searched from the USGS' NCRDS database for Virginia and entered into StratiFact, and a StratiFact database obtained from the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey (WVGES). Point data were gridded, the grid contoured and imported to ARC/INFO as polygons. The Kentucky portion was replaced by a polygonal thickness coverage obtained from the Kentucky Geological Survey that had been manually contoured, therefore State line discrepancies are to be expected....

This dataset is a polygon coverage of structure contours (elevation) for the Pond Creek coal zone in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. The surface was created by gridding information from 137,355 points and contouring the grid into 100-ft intervals. Many of the points were derived from existing structure contoure maps obtained from Kentucky and West Virgina. In Virginia, data were searched from the StratiFact database created from the National Coal Resource Data System (NCRDS). Data from specific quadrangles in the StratiFact database from the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey were also searched. The grid was created in EarthVision, was contoured and imported to ARC/INFO as polygons using an AML....

This data set is a point coverage representing Alaskan coal fields of undetermined extent. Resolution of data is 1:5000000. The points were collected from Farrell Barnes's "Coal Fields of the United States, Alaska"(sheet 2, 1960) map. Updates are planned for the future. These updates will include the polygons used by energy resource regions of the USGS Energy Program in the National Coal Assessment. Data from Alaska will be incorporated using the most recent digital data available from Alaskan authorities.
