This is the dataset for anticipated oil and gas well development in areas of high oil and gas potential as described in Copeland et al. (2009) Mapping Oil and Gas Development Potential in the US Intermountain West and Estimating Impacts to Species, PLoSOne. (http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0007400) This dataset corresponds with results shown in Figure 2 of the publication. Please see paper in PLoSOne for more detailed methods. The dataset should be cited as: Copeland, H., K. Doherty, D. Naugle, A. Pocewicz, J. Kiesecker (2010) Mapping Oil and Gas Development Potential in the US Intermountain West and Estimating Impacts to Species. The projection of this dataset is: US NAD83 Lambert...

Locations of landfills and waste transfer stations in the Central Great Basin Ecoregion taken from a larger data set of 11 western states. USGS/SAGEMAP obtained this data from state and federal agencies in GIS, tabular, and map format. The primary contact for this the source data set is Steve Hanser, USGS-FRESC, Snake River Field Station, Boise, ID Not intended for use at scales greater than 1:250000

This report presents updated information about subsistence uses of fish, wildlife, and plant resources in 5 communities of southcentral Alaska - Igiugig, Kokhanok, Koliganek, Levelock, and New Stuyahok. The Division of Subsistence of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game conducted the study in collaboration with Stephen R. Braund & Associates. Phase I of this study took place in the communities of Iliamna, Newhalen, Nondalton, Pedro Bay, and Port Alsworth in 2005, to document subsistence uses and harvests and demographic and other economic data for the study year of 2004 (Fall et al. 2006). This report documents findings from phase II which expanded the study to 5 additional communities within the watersheds that...

Site-specific multiple linear regression models were developed for one beach in Ohio (three discrete sampling sites) and one beach in Pennsylvania to estimate concentrations of Escherichia coli (E. coli) or the probability of exceeding the bathing-water standard for E. coli in recreational waters used by the public. Traditional culture-based methods are commonly used to estimate concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria, such as E. coli; however, results are obtained 18 to 24 hours post sampling and do not accurately reflect current water-quality conditions. Beach-specific mathematical models use environmental and water-quality variables that are easily and quickly measured as surrogates to estimate concentrations...

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic survey over parts of northwestern Minnesota near the town of Mentor. The airborne survey was funded by the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative and was designed to meet complementary needs related to geologic mapping and characterization of mineral resource potential. A total of 40,139-line km of magnetic data were acquired over an irregular-shaped area of 9140 km2. Data were collected from a fixed-wing aircraft flown at mean terrain clearance of 120 meters (m) above topography along N-S flight lines spaced at 250 m intervals. Tie lines were flown in an E-W direction every 2500 m. Data were collected by EDCON-PRJ and NV5 Geospatial,...

This data release provides digital flight-line and gridded data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over the region surrounding the Wet Mountains of southern Colorado, including parts of Custer and Fremont Counties. Data for this survey were collected by Sander Geophysics Limited International (SGL) under contract with the USGS. The survey was flown in June and July of 2021 using a helicopter equipped with a magnetometer mounted in a stinger extending from the nose of the aircraft and a gamma-ray spectrometer stowed onboard. The helicopter pilots followed pre-planned flight paths in a grid-like pattern, with east-west lines spaced 150 meters apart and north-south lines spaced 1,000 meters...

The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is the Federal standard for geographic nomenclature. The U.S. Geological Survey developed the GNIS for the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, a Federal inter-agency body chartered by public law to maintain uniform feature name usage throughout the Government and to promulgate standard names to the public. The GNIS is the official repository of domestic geographic names data; the official vehicle for geographic names use by all departments of the Federal Government; and the source for applying geographic names to Federal electronic and printed products of all types. See http://geonames.usgs.gov for additional information.
