Advancing our mechanistic understanding of ecosystem responses to climate change is critical to improve ecological theories, develop predictive models to simulate ecosystem processes, and inform sound policies to manage ecosystems and human activities. Manipulation of temperature in the field, or the “ecosystem warming experiment,” has proved to be a powerful tool to understand ecosystem responses to changes in temperature. No comprehensive synthesis has been conducted since the last one more than 10 years ago. A new synthetic analysis is critically needed to advance our understanding of ecosystem responses to warming, to highlight experimental artifacts and appropriate interpretations, and to guide development...

Tropical forests contain > 50% of the world’s known species (Heywood 1995), 55% of global forest biomass (Pan et al. 2011), and exchange more carbon (C), water and energy with the atmosphere than any other ecosystem type (e.g., Saugier et al. 2001). Despite their importance, there is more uncertainty associated with predictions of how tropical forests will respond to warming than for any other biome (Randerson et al. 2009). This uncertainty is of global concern due to the large quantity of C cycled by these forests and the high potential for biodiversity loss. Given the importance of tropical forests, decision makers and land managers around the globe need increased predictive capacity regarding how tropical forests...

This is the GeoPackage (“TMG_AdditionalArea_Trans.gpkg”) that contains the layer (“main.TMG_Area_Trans”) depicting the spatial extent of the four Additional Survey Area transects that are surveyed during the annual MBM-AK TLSA molting goose aerial surveys. This GeoPackage (NAD83; ESPG: 3338) was created by Michael Swain in August 2021 and subsequently emailed to Maggie Harings. It includes waterbody units, waterbody types, and waterbody perimeter as well as their areas.Transects do not exist for Cape Simpson as this area is adequately assessed by conducting aerial surveys for lakes only. Piasuk River Delta area is surveyed using a combination of aerial lake surveys and transects. Colville River Delta and Atigaru...

This is the quality controlled YKD salinity data for fixed and random plots 2006 - 2019. These data are quality controlled using the R code in the file ‘YKDsalinity_QC.R’ to produce the data used for analysis and sharing (‘YKDsalinity_QC.R’). These data should be what is used for analysis or distributed on request.
The document describes the field protocol used during the 2019 field season of the distance sampling pilot project on the Yukon Delta.

This R code (PrepData.R) is used to process the quality controlled legacy nest card data (1985 - 2019) together with the observer names data to produce a capture history data set plot searched twice in 1995 to 1999. Second searches of plot are defined by the PLOTTYPE = “R2” in the nest cards data. Matches are define by the PREVIOUSOBS and PREVIOUSNEST field in the nest card data set but a large number of quality control issue arise in this process and are resolve as detailed in this code. This code produces a data file “chdata.csv” that defines the capture history for each nest and is used as input to Program MARK and JAGS for model fitting and detection estimation. Basic operations include reconciling species and...

Combined population indices of ducks and loons (YKD) and geese and swans (YKG) for the USFWS Region Migratory Bird Management Alaska Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Aerial Survey study area in a combined csv format. The survey consists of low-level aerial observations of waterfowl on a stratified strip transect design. The resulting data frame is several indices combined over observers (or single observer in years where estimates were not combined) and calculated using a standard ratio estimator. These data are output from the R package AKaerial and are also available within that package, see https://github.com/USFWS/AKaerial.

The SRLCC provided funds to the states of Arizona and New Mexico to support development of the states Crucial Habitat Assessment Tools (CHATs) which provide a decision support system to better incorporate wildlife values, sensitive animals and plants, and important ecosystem features into land use decision-making to reduce conflicts and surprises.Several states have released wildlife mapping tools that are the foundation for displaying crucial wildlife and corridor information. The state and regional CHATs are non-regulatory, and give project planners and the general public access to credible scientific data on a broad scale for use in project analysis, siting and planning. This includes large-scale development...

This dataset contains measures of seasonal mean bird stopover densities and in seasonal mean bird density based on weather surveillance radar data from 20 radar locations in the Northeast U.S. across seven autumn migrations (15 August through 7 November of 2008-2014) [six autumn migrations for the terminal doppler weather radar (15 August through 7 November of 2009-2014)]. Data are present only in radar-sampled areas for each individual radar (see below for description on how these data are filtered). If you are interested in a continuous map of bird stopover densities for the entire region (and outside of these radar coverage areas), refer to layer “Predicted autumn migratory landbird density, 1km, Northeast U.S.”.The...

This data represents an assessment of forest composition used in the ecological assessment of upland hardwood systems by the GCPO LCC. We used a combination of remote sensing products including 2011 National Land Cover Database (NLCD) forest classes and the 2011 MAV forest classification layer produced by the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture to delineate patches of all forest types in the GCPO LCC. We used NLCD as the primary data source when assessing forests outside the GCPO LCC MAV subgeography, and the LMVJV forest classification as the primary data source for forest assessment within the MAV. NLCD was developed using 2011 Landsat TM imagery, with forest classes including only areas with trees exceeding...

This dataset was last updated 02/2017. This version includes a new tidal restrictions metric that assesses the effect of undersized culverts and bridges on tidal regime. The previous version (3.1) was updated on 05/2016 by incorporating a revised version of the land cover classification, DSLland Version 3.1, developed by UMass, which included the addition of The Nature Conservancy’s Northeast lakes and ponds classification. This dataset depicts the ecological integrity of locations (represented by 30 m grid cells) throughout the northeastern United States based on environmental conditions existing in approximately 2010. Ecological integrity is defined as the ability of an area (e.g., local site or landscape) to...
This is an incomplete collection of track files produced during the MBM-AK TLSA molting goose survey flights. They reference latitude, longitude, and time in total seconds in the day. These files are called by R code (‘TMGSurvey_Master_2019.Rmd’ located in ‘GitHub_Annual_Report_Code’). Following review of this code, it appears as though these transcripts were not ultimately used in any way. Please consult ‘TMGSurvey_Master_2019.Rmd’ for additional context. Track file naming format is as follows: ‘TR[date][firstInitialLastNameOfObserver].csv’; HWilson refers to Heather Wilson while BShults refers to Brad Shults.

This R code (YKDsalinity_QC.R) is used to process the raw legacy salinity data for fixed and random plots (2006 - 2019) and produce the quality controlled legacy salinity data for analysis and sharing (YKDsalinity_QC.csv). Basic operations include transforming missing value to a common code, transforming other variables to match the data dictionary, and cleaning spatial location issues. Of special note is that this QC process discover significant error in location data due to a variety of reasons so the random plot centers are added to the data table and should be used for analysis. The code requires the raw data (“Official_YKD.SALINITY.DATA.MASTER.2020.csv”), a definition of the nest plot study area (“NestPlotStudyAreaBoundary.geojson”),...

Description of condition index value scores for estuarine tidal marsh along and within 10 km of the GCPO LCC Gulf Coast subgeography. A series of raster calculations were used in a dichotomous decision-based framework to compile a per-pixel draft condition index value at a 10 m resolution for GCPO estuarine tidal marsh based on the number of configuration and condition endpoints met within each marsh pixel. Pixels not identified as a estuarine marsh but that were identified as having the potential to be marsh were given a score of 1, provided the pixels were not classified as developed. Potential estuarine tidal marsh pixels were derived from a combination of potential estuarine tidal marsh classes in the Landfire...
