The 303(d) Listed Impaired Waters program provides impaired water data and impaired water features reflecting river segments, lakes, and estuaries designated under Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act (CWA). Each State will establish Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for these waters. Note the CWA Section 303(d) list of impaired waters does not represent waters that are impaired but have an established TMDL, impaired waters for which other pollution control mechanisms are in place and expected to attain water quality standards, or waters impaired as a result of pollution. Trout Unlimited developed the Conservation Success Index (CSI) in order to become more strategic and effective in our conservation efforts. Using the CSI, we can quantify and map the conservation status of all native coldwater fishes so that comparisons of existing condition, threats, future security, and management opportunities can be made across watersheds, river basins, and entire species. This enables us to deliver conservation in context. This theme shows the Key Watersheds that are located on BLM lands and adjacent Forest Service Lands, as identified during the Forest Ecosystem Management Assessment effort (Northwest Forest Plan - Record of Decision 1994). The initial mapping done in 1994 was a very generalized representation and was done prior to the development of the interagency standard 5th and 6th field watershed boundaries. The line work has been made coincident with the 5th and 6th field watershed lines where the Key Watershed Boundaries clearly intended to use a watershed as the boundary. The Aquatic and Riparian Effectiveness Monitoring Plan (AREMP) characterizes the ecological condition of watersheds and aquatic ecosystems to answer the core question: “Are the Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) and the BLM Western Oregon Resource Management Plans maintaining and restoring the conditions of aquatic and riparian ecosystems on federal lands in the Forest Plan area?” AREMP determines the status and trend of inchannel and upslope-riparian watershed condition for sixth-field watersheds (HUC12) within the NWFP area. This directory contains summaries of 30 arc-second (~800m) snow products generated using the Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) macroscale hydrologic model. The driving meteorological dataset was generated by downscaling the 1/16th degree data used by Littell et al. 2011 (Regional Climate and Hydrologic Change in the Northern US Rockies and Pacific Northwest, http://cses.washington.edu/picea/USFS/pub/). The downscaling to 30 arc-second was achieved using PRISM climate normals for monthly average temperature and precipitation. Here we describe one conservation tool that will help to identify particularly significant river basins of the North Pacific for the conservation of salmon: the first Pacific-Rim wide assessment of salmon populations at a consistent scale. In conjunction with a scientific advisory panel and a peer review workshop we developed four criteria for the Pacific Salmon Conservation Assessment (PSCA) to provide an indication of aquatic ecosystem and salmon population resilience at the basin scale. These criteria are salmon abundance, diversity, hatchery influence, and landscape suitability. Global Land Ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS) is an international project with the goal of surveying a majority of the world's estimated 160,000 glaciers. GLIMS uses data collected primarily by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument aboard the Terra satellite and the LANDSAT Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+), along with historical observations. The GLIMS project is currently creating a unique glacier inventory, storing information about the extent and rates of change of all the world's glacial resources. The Monthly Projected Snow Water Equivalence (SNWE) data sets are part of the downscaled global climate models created for the 2008 California climate change assessment. These files are made from daily data and are monthly mean values in millimeters. SNWE layers have been created through a Bias Corrected Statistical Downscaling (BCSD) approach and are currently available for the cnrmcm3, gfdlcm21, ncarccsm3, and ncarpcm1 models under the A2 and B1 scenarios. The BCSD data cover 31.9375N to 43.9375N and 124.5625W to 113.0625W. The VIC grid is a 1/8th degree grid so this makes a "box" of 93 longitudes by 97 latitudes. The VIC computations are done over land only. For the 93x97 box there would be a total of 9021 points...

Note that the StreamNet database contains distribution information for numerous species. Within the source database, overlap does not exist for a particular species/run/subrun combination. State of the Salmon GIS staff appended, cleaned, and clipped the basins to the North Pacific extent area. This coverage was then edited, by manual digitizing, checking accuracy against a 1:1,000,000 streams coverage, digital elevation models, and 4th field watershed boundaries where available. This process mostly entailed eliminating erroneous inclusion and exclusion of upper stream reaches within Hydro1k boundaries. When more detailed streams were consulted in the Pacific Northwest, Hydro1k basins could have been refined further and were in the cases when it affected distribution of salmonids at the time of processing (Summer 2004). Top conservation priorities for the coastal temperate rain forest bioregion include the protection and stewardship of large contiguous blocks of undeveloped land and water. Watersheds form a logical unit of analysis to identify such priority areas: the flow of water through a drainage basin integrates distribution of fish populations, flows of energy, and movement of materials. The analysis illustrated by this map is based on a methodology developed by Keith Moore (1991) as part of an inventory of coastal watersheds in British Columbia.
