Microsatellite genotypes for Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) Eggs and Larvae from Constructed Reefs in the St. Clair-Detroit River System (2015-2016)

This dataset contains the physical collection information (e.g., sample location, date, gear type) and microsatellite DNA genotype of egg and larval Lake Sturgeon collected in the St. Clair and Detroit rivers in 2015 and 2016. Individuals were genotyped for 18 microsatellite loci (13 disomic and 5 polysomic). Alleles (base pair sizes) were recorded as presence absence scores (1:present, 2:absent, 0:missing data) for all previously observed alleles. Thus individual genotypes were recorded as pseudo diploid dominant phenotypes resulting in individual vectors of length n=205 for each genotyped egg or larval individual.

Confronting uncertainty in species distribution projections

The CA Academy of Science and Point Blue Conservation Science conducted a systematic analysis of uncertainty in modeling the future distributions of ~50 California endemic plant species and ~50 California land birds, explicitly partitioning among 5 alternative sources of variation and testing for their respective contributions to overall variation among modeled outcomes. They mapped the uncertainty from identified sources, which can guide decisions about monitoring, restoration, acquisition, infrastructure, etc., in relation to climate change.

The relevance of wetland conservation in arid regions: A re-examination of vanishing communities in the American Southwest

Desert wetlands, or ciénegas, are regions of high conservation value in the American Deserts. These environments, in the Apache Highlands Ecoregion spanning the borderlands of Arizona, USA and Sonora, México, contain an estimated 19% of endangered, threatened and candidate species within 2% of the regional area. Besides being crucial refugia for native fish, amphibians, snails, and plants, ciénegas constitute critical habitat for migratory birds. Here we analyze the distribution, conservation status and restoration potential of ciénegas in this region. Number of Endemic Species by Terrestrial Ecoregion

Number of endemic vertebrate species, by terrestrial ecoregion. The number of terrestrial endemic species refers to the number of endemic mammals, birds, and reptiles in each terrestrial ecoregion. We compiled data on these endemic species by querying the WWF WildFinder database for their occurrences by ecoregion. The WWF WildFinder database is a spatially explicit online database of vertebrate species occurrences by ecoregion. These data were displayed in a map published in The Atlas of Global Conservation (Hoekstra et al., University of California Press, 2010). More information at http://nature.org/atlas.

Indo-West Pacific species of Trachinotus with spots on their sides as adults, with description of a new species endemic to the Marquesas Islands (Teleostei: Carangidae)

The dataset is a composite of morphological data used in the description of a new species of marine fish, Trachinotus macrospilus (Teleostei: Carangidae), endemic to the Marquesas Islands of the Indo-West Pacific. In the addition to the newly described species, three previously named (nominate) species of the same genus are compared and redescribed in this same manuscript. The morphological data include both mensural (morphometric) and meristic (count) data. Synonymies are provided for all species, since many misidentifications have been made in the literature, which dates to the early 1800's.

Data compiled from stratigraphic and tree-ring studies of late Holocene earthquakes and tsunamis at Copalis River, Grays Harbor, Willapa Bay, and Columbia River, Washington and Oregon

This dataset consists of tabular information from coastal studies of earthquake and tsunami history along a central part of the Cascadia Subduction Zone. The study area encompasses four estuaries along the Pacific coast of southern Washington and northernmost Oregon. Nearly all the field work took place between 1986 and 1998. Data tables, 18 in all, archive mostly georeferenced information about stratigraphy, radiocarbon ages, and trees dead and living. Some of this data was interpreted in reports published between 1987 and 2005, but most of it was previously unavailable.
