This dataset represents an update to U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 597. Locations and attributes of wind turbines in Colorado, 2009 (available at http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/597/). This updated Colorado wind turbine Data Series provides geospatial data (fig. 1) for all 1,204 wind turbines established within the State of Colorado as of September 2011, an increase of 297 wind turbines from 2009.Attributes specific to each turbine include: turbine location, manufacturer and model, rotor diameter, hub height, rotor height, potential megawatt output, land ownership, county, and development status of the wind turbine. Wind energy facility data for each turbine include: facility name, facility power capacity, number of...

To determine if invasive annual grasses increased around energy developments after the construction phase, we calculated an invasives index using Landsat TM and ETM+ imagery for a 34-year time period (1985-2018) and assessed trends for 1,755 wind turbines (from the U.S. Wind Turbine Database) installed between 1988 and 2013 in the southern California desert. The index uses the maximum normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for early season greenness (January-June), and mean NDVI (July-October) for the later dry season. We estimated the relative cover of invasive annuals each year at turbine locations and control sites and tested for changes before and after each turbine was installed. These data were used...

This dataset represents an update to U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 596. Locations and attributes of wind turbines in New Mexico, 2009 (available at http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/596/).This updated New Mexico wind turbine Data Series provides geospatial data for all 562 wind turbines established within the State of New Mexico as of June 2011, an increase of 155 wind turbines from 2009. Attributes specific to each turbine include: turbine location, manufacturer and model, rotor diameter, hub height, rotor height, potential megawatt output, land ownership, county, and development status of wind turbine. Wind energy facility data for each turbine include: facility name, facility power capacity, number of turbines associated...

USGS staff created this data (July 2008) from existing NHD - High resolution data and Level 5 and 6 HUC data created by WyGISC. Several data gaps exist in the NHD Level 5 and 6 HUC data. WyGISC data was used to supplement the NHD data in these cases. Topology enforced HUC dataset. This file contains Hydrologic Unit boundaries and codes for the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The data is a seamless National representation of Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) boundaries at HUC2 to HUC12 levels compiled from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and U.S. Department of Agricultural (USDA) National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) sources.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Fort Collins Science Center created a national data set of the footprint area of solar arrays for the Bureau of Land Management’s National Operations Center. We identified potential solar facility locations for the conterminous U.S. using the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) utility-scale facilities data from 2015. The footprint area of each solar array was digitized on-screen using true color aerial imagery from the most recently available National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) for each state (NAIP 2013-2015). We used supplementary ESRI basemap imagery accessed via ArcGIS to verify locations of arrays observed in NAIP imagery. Arrays separated by more than 30 meters...

These data represent locations of wind turbines found within Wyoming as of August 2012. We assigned each wind turbine to a wind farm and, in these data, provide information about each turbine’s potential megawatt output, rotor diameter, hub height, rotor height, the status of the land ownership where the turbine exists, the county each turbine is located in, wind farm power capacity, the number of units currently associated with each wind farm, the wind turbine manufacturer and model, the wind farm developer, the owner of the wind farm, the current purchaser of power from the wind farm, the year the wind farm went online, and the status of its operation. Some of the attributes are estimates based on the information...
