The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations sharing similar geologic, geographic, and temporal properties within the Total Petroleum System, such as source rock, timing, migration pathways, trapping mechanism, and hydrocarbon type. The Assessment Unit boundary is defined geologically as the limits of the geologic...

A time-dependent form of Darcy’s Law was used to model pressure-driven fluid flow within homogeneous, isotropic, low-permeability carrier beds exhibiting a broad range of rock and fluid properties likely encountered in a variety of sedimentary sequences (Burke, 2022). In the study by Burke (2022), thermodynamic equations of state were used to determine thermophysical properties of supercritical pore fluids under reservoir pressures from 0–200 MPa (0–29,000 psi). This Data Release disseminates the numerical data tables for the Darcy flow timescales and velocities of methane and supercritical carbon dioxide used in that study.

During the summers of 2017 and 2020, our team collected gravity, ground magnetic (ATV and hiked traverses), paleomagnetic and rock property (density and susceptibility) data on the Umatilla Indian Reservation (UIR) in northeast Oregon to aid in characterizing subsurface stratigraphy using 2D and 3D modeling methods. This data was integrated with conductance surfaces from a 3D magnetotelluic model and regional stress data to generate geothermal resource favorability maps to inform future exploration and drilling efforts by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).

This data release contains geophysical data collected at the Little Wind River site near Riverton, Wyoming in 2015 and 2017. The dataset contains:[1] Fiber Optic Distributed Temperature Sensing data (FO-DTS, August-September 2015) collected in the water along the river bank, [2] Electrical Resistivity Tomography data (ERT, August 2017) collected on land near the river bank, and [3] Frequency domain Electromagnetic Induction (EMI, August 2017) data collected along the river and more extensively throughout the study region. Data for each of these methods can be found in the child items linked below.

This digital data release contains geospatial geologic and paleontological data of the 1° x2 °, 1:250,000 Limon quadrangle covering eastern Colorado and western Kansas. The dataset is a digital reproduction of previously published U.S. Geological Survey field mapping which illustrates the spatial configuration of primarily Quaternary surficial units overlying upper Miocene, Oligocene, Paleocene, and Upper Cretaceous bedrock (Sharps, 1980). This quadrangle contains numerous outcrop of the Ogallala Formation, which is a prolific freshwater aquifer throughout the broader great plains. A structure contour map of the top of the Dakota Sandstone are included, which was constructed using selected oil and gas well logs...

This data release contains data associated with the journal article, “Comparison of δ13C Analyses on Individual Foraminifer (Orbulina universa) Shells by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and Gas-Source Mass Spectrometry”. Data tables are comprised of stable carbon isotope (δ13C) measurements of planktic foraminifer (Orbulina universa) shells measured by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and conventional gas-source mass spectrometry (GSMS). The data release also includes the R code used for statistical analysis and figure generation, as well as scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of O. universa shells taken before and after SIMS analysis.

The USGS Gulf Coast Source Rock Database (GCSRD) is an online repository for all publicly available source rock data (outcrop and subsurface) from the states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas. "Source rock data" are defined in this context as data that include any of the following measured or calculated parameters: -total organic carbon (TOC), -various pyrolysis measurements (Tmax, S1, S2, S3, HI, OI), -vitrinite or bitumen reflectance values. All data in the GCSRD have been extracted from previously published peer-reviewed literature or as USGS-released data sets; no new measurements are included. The underlying data set is presented as an interactive, map-view application...

The Mofete and San Vito geothermal fields, located west of Naples, Italy, are part of the Campi Flegrei volcanic complex. A joint venture in the 1970s between AGIP and ENEL, the Italian National electric and petroleum utilities, respectively, drilled exploratory wells to a depth of ~3000 m in an attempt to locate high-enthalpy fluids for potential power production. Drill core samples from Mofete wells (MF1, MF2, and MF5) and from San Vito wells (SV1 and SV3) contain authigenic ore mineralization. Pyrite, pyrrhotite, and galena are abundant. Less common are chalcopyrite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite, scheelite, and rare are millerite, violarite, native bismuth, tellurobismuthite, cassiterite, molybdenite, and acanthite....

A suite of slate samples collected along a 2 km transect crossing the Lishan Fault in central Taiwan were evaluated to assess the role of ductile strain energy in natural graphitization at greenschist facies metamorphic conditions. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging documents phyllosilicate and quartz replacement textures consistent cleavage development via dissolution-precipitation processes that increase in intensity from east to west. X-ray diffraction data reveal an east-to-west linear decrease in the full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) values of the 004 muscovite peaks and shifts towards higher 2θ (lower d) values. Rietveld refinements required two distinct muscovite populations and muscovite microstrain...

This compilation presents total organic carbon and pyrolysis analysis data for the Pierre Shale, Niobrara Formation, and other Cretaceous marine shales in the Raton Basin-Sierra Grande Uplift Province. The data was used to characterize these potential source rock intervals in support of the oil and gas resource assessment in the province. The data was compiled from the publicly available files at the USGS Core Research Center in Lakewood, Colorado and from published literature.

One of the largest conventional oil reservoirs in the United States, the Permian Basin, is becoming one of the world’s largest continuous oil and gas producing reservoirs. Continuous, or horizontal well drilling techniques extract oil and gas by directionally drilling and hydraulically fracturing the surrounding reservoir rock. The continuous extraction of oil and gas using hydraulic fracturing requires large volumes of water, and estimates of the total water volume used in the Continuous Oil and Gas (COG) extraction technique, requires a comprehensive assessment to determine the amount of water needed to extract reservoir resources. This data release contains the input and output files utilized for the assessment...

This data release includes the model input and output files for the 3D petroleum systems model of the Williston Basin. The model was created in Schlumberger's PetroMod version 2020.1. The enclosed folders are standard PetroMod format and contain all data necessary for defining and re-simulating the model. Please contact Tim Nesheim at the North Dakota Geologic Survey (tonesheim@nd.gov) directly for static temperature log data used in the temperature calibration. Proprietary IHS Markit ® (2022) data used for model calibration are also not included in this data release. This is a child item of a larger data release titled "Data release for the 3D petroleum systems model of the Williston Basin, USA".

The thermal maturity grids are results generated from the petroleum systems model for five major source rock intervals, which include, from youngest to oldest, the Tyler, Mission Canyon, upper part of the Bakken, Red River, and Icebox Formations. The units are in equivalent vitrinite reflectance using the Nielsen et al. (2017) Basin%Ro kinetic model. Note: these grids represent the modeled thermal maturity of the source interval horizon and may extend beyond the lithostratigraphic extent of the inferred source rock; they cover the entire petroleum systems model area of interest. This is a child item of a larger data release titled "Data release for the 3D petroleum systems model of the Williston Basin, USA".
