This collection contains the report log files produced by the R Package “AKaerial” when the QC data were created from the raw transcribed data. The QC log files document the quality control process, data standards, and what changes (if any) were made to the QC data compared to the raw data. Each log file was named following the same file naming conventions: SSSYYYY_QCLog_OOOO, where; YKD=Duck data, YKG=Goose data, YYY=Year, and OOO=observer’s first initial and last name.

This multi-layer GeoPackage contains the Alaska Arctic Coastal Plain Aerial Breeding Pair Survey design transects from 2007 to present. The original transects were created as shapefiles and imported to this SQLite database. Transects were saved as individual polylines named according to the year they were created (e.g., “main.ACP_2007_Trans,” “main.ACP_2008_Trans,” “main.ACP_2009_Trans,” etc.). These aerial transects were developed systematically from randomly-selected start points and created along constant lines of latitude. The inter-transect spacing in the low, medium, high, and very-high density strata varies so that areas with higher waterfowl density are surveyed more intensively. The current four-year rotating...

This data release contains phytoplankton data and vertical profile measurements of water quality and light in oligotrophic (low nutrient) lakes within the Adirondack Park, New York State. Data were collected between June and October 2021 at five lakes. Four lake locations (Nearshore, Open Water, Layer, Bloom) were sampled representing one of four sample types (Bottom Sediment, Surface Water, Bloom Material, Layer). Water-quality field parameters (water temperature, dissolved-oxygen concentration and percent saturation, pH, specific conductance, turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, phycocyanin fluorescence, and fluorescent dissolved organic material) were measured at each sampling location from the surface to the...

This multi-layer GeoPackage contains the YKD Coastal Zone Survey design transects from 1985 to present. The original transects were imported to this SQLite database structure and saved as individual polylines named according to the year they were created (e.g., “main.YK_1985_Trans,” “main.YK_1986_Trans,” “main.YK_1987_Trans,” etc.). The aerial transects were developed systematically from randomly-selected start points and created along constant lines of latitude. The inter-transect spacing in the low, medium, high, and very-high density strata varies so that areas with higher waterfowl density are surveyed more intensively. Though the overall study area never changed, the YKD Survey design was modified several times,...

In 2019 a pilot study was conducted to determine the feasibility of using distance sampling to estimate density and population size of goose and eider nests on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD). Distance sampling (Buckland et al. 2001) is a common and well-understood method to estimate wildlife population size or density, especially for sparse and hard-to-detect populations. A main advantage of distance sampling is that it accounts for imperfect detection and gives precise estimates for a given level of effort relative to other methods. The objectives for the pilot project in 2019 was to (1) determine if distance sampling is feasible on the YKD, (2) determine what aspects of the field protocol need to be changed or...

This geopackage contains the density strata that were used to create the YKD Coastal Zone Survey’s current four-year rotating panel design. This file was derived from a mid-1980’s ArcInfo coverage, ‘Sampling Intensity’ (“SI arc”) that was produced through the visual interpretation of 1:250,000-scale LANDSAT imagery and the nesting density of cackling Canada geese.
This file crosswalks each species in the raw transcribed data to a common name, scientific name, four-letter American Ornithological Union (AOU) species code, and provides species-specific decision logic for the analysis of Arctic Coastal Plain, Black Scoter, Copper River, and Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta aerial survey data.
This file documents changes that were made to the original “raw” transcribed data during the quality assurance / quality control process when duplicate records were deleted, typographical errors were corrected, and character encoding was revised to conform to the current data standards.

Aerial survey track files were recorded by each observer using Panasonic Toughpad or Toughbook computers running the software program “RECORD” (John I. Hodges, MBM-Alaska). The RECORD program was activated during the survey before arriving at the first transect and shut down after the last transect was completed, prior to engine shut-down. “Raw” track files recorded the flightpath of the aircraft including the area surveyed on each transect. GPS coordinates were captured every five seconds using a recreational grade receiver with an estimated positional accuracy of 5-10 meters after the software program was activated. These raw track files have not been quality checked, so they may contain missing or erroneous coordinates...

This collection of files contains the reports that were produced when the raw data were quality-checked against the defined standards in the “Transcribed Data Dictionary” using the “GreenLight” function of the R Package “AKaerial.” The QC log files document the quality control process, data standards, and what changes (if any) were made in the QC data compared to the raw data. Each log file was named following the same file naming conventions: SSS_YYYY_QCLog_OOOO_yyyy-mm-dd, where; YKD = Duck data, YKG = Goose data or YYY=Year, OOOO = observer’s first initial and last name,yyyy-mm-dd = year, month, and day the AKaerial.R (“GreenLight”) function in was most recently executed
