This dataset represents a subset of the original USDA Forest Service map spanning 1878-2007. This map depicts only fires from 1878-1899. The original metadata for the entire dataset is below:This dataset represents USDA Forest Service fire perimeters 10+ acres and California Dept of Forestry fire perimeters 300+ acres occurring from the year 1950 to 2007. The geographic extent of the fires includes the State of California, Region 5 Forests (some R5 Forests have boundaries falling outside CA) and the Toiyabe National Forest in Region 4. Some fires before 1950 are also included. Fires are compiled from both historic and recently mapped records. This layer contains records up to and including fires from 2007.

These data show the Fire History Indicator for the Pine Flatwoods and Dry Prairie Conservation Asset in Florida. Fire Regime is an ecological indicator for the Pine Flatwoods and Dry Prairie Conservation Asset of the Florida Landscape Conservation Project (LCP). The LCP entails a large-scale assessment of and planning for the health of important natural resources, known as Conservation Assets (CAs), in Florida. Conservation planning at the landscape scale provides a framework for safeguarding functional ecosystems, and their interconnected processes required for maintaining healthy resources. Spatially explicit data from the project informs coordination and prioritization for making conservation decisions. A suite...

THIS PORTION CREATED BY KIM FOILES (June 2010) Fire perimeters for 2009 were added to this data set by Chip Fisher of the RO geospatial group (March 2009): Fire perimeters for 2008 were added to this data set by various GIS technicians at the R1-RO based on perimeter data obtain from Region 1 Units. THIS PORTION CREATED BY WILLIAM TANKE (May 2008): Fire perimeters for 2006, 2007 were added to this data set based on perimeter data obtain from Region 1 Units. Fire perimeters for years prior to 2006 may have been added or edited based on data provided from the units. Detailed process steps are included as a metadata enclosure. THIS PORTION CREATED BY TOBIN SMALL: The polygon feature class is part the Region 1 Fire...

The 2000-2009 national fire perimeter data layer was developed in support of WFDSS for the 2010 fire season. The objective of the layer is to display historic national fire perimeter polygons in WFDSS. This layer will be expanded and grown upon in future years. The 2009 layer was created using the WFDSS 2001-2008 national fire history perimeter data, the interagency California 2009 data, Alaska 2009 data, and the remaining 47 States 2009 fire perimeter data from GeoMAC. The layer contains only those fires 100 acres and larger and from the time period of 2000-2009 from the data sources listed below. Last updated 08-23-2010. This layer represents historic fire perimeters within 50km of the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem (CCE) from 2014 to 2015 within only Alberta and British Columbia. This dataset was developed by the Crown Managers Partnership, as part of a transboundary collaborative management initiative for the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, based on commonly identified management priorities that are relevant at the landscape scale. The CMP is collaborative group of land managers, scientists, and stakeholder in the CCE. For more information on the CMP and its collaborators, programs, and projects please visit: http://crownmanagers.org/. This dataset was first published in May 2016. Note: There was not any public data available...

Federal fire history reports by date and organization: 1980 - 2010 DOI (BIA, BLM, NPS), USFWS, and USFS
Pions and junipers, that dominate many semi-arid landscapes in the western United States, have invaded some sagebrush and grassland areas and possibly increased in density since EuroAmerican settlement. Exclusion of fire by livestock grazing and intentional suppression is thought to have been a cause of these changes. National assessments suggest that many woodlands have missed one or more low-severity surface fires and are thus in poor condition, requiring restoration. We undertook a systematic review of seven questions about fire history, fire severity, and the role of fire in these woodlands to evaluate the scientific basis for the national assessment. First, unless pions and junipers record fire by means of...

CAL FIRE, USDA Forest Service Region 5, BLM, NPS, Contract Counties and other agencies jointly maintain a comprehensive fire perimeter GIS layer for public and private lands throughout the state. The data covers fires back to 1878. For the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and US Forest Service, fires of 10 acres and greater are reported. For CAL FIRE, timber fires greater than 10 acres, brush fires fires greater than 50 acres, grass fires greater than 300 acres, and fires that destroy three or more residential dwellings or commercial structures are reported.

Fire severity, frequency, and extent are expected to change dramatically in coming decades in response to changing climatic conditions, superimposed on the adverse cumulative effects of various human-related disturbances on ecosystems during the past 100 years or more. To better gauge these expected changes, knowledge of climatic and human influences on past fire regimes is essential. We characterized the temporal and spatial properties of fire regimes in ponderosa pine forests of the southern San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado by collecting 175 fire-scarred tree samples from nine sites across a wide range of topographic settings. All tree rings and fire scars were dated using standard dendrochronological...
