These data describe the catch and biological data from 363 bottom-set gill-net lifts distributed throughout Lake Michigan (including main basin and Green Bay) between April and November in 1930–1932. Data collected from the R/V Fulmar were recorded in notebooks and are now archived at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Great Lakes Science Center. Each lift included 1–7 gangs of linen gill nets. Each gang comprised 3–5 panels each having a length of 155 m, a height of 1.5 m, and a (stretch-)mesh size of either 60, 64, 67, 70, or 76 mm. The digitization of the Fulmar data notebooks was started in the late 1990s and finished in this study.

This Benthic Invertebrate Community Analysis dataset, a conceptual subgroup of the Lake Erie Ecological Investigations (LEEI) dataset, focuses on the benthic invertebrates sampled at Areas of Concern (AOCs) on Lake Erie. Per the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), the invertebrate samples were taken from sediments remaining from the sediment analysis. Identification of the invertebrates was completed by the same invertebrate taxonomist for both the 1998-2000 evaluation and 1986-87 historical evaluation (Smith et al. 1994) for increased consistency. Oligochaetes were identified to species if possible, chironomids were identified to genus, as adult specimens are needed for specific identification, and other taxa...

This data was collected by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to see if environmental DNA (eDNA) varied across pools and within pools in the Illinois River basin. The data was collected in 2015 from three different habitat types: shoreline, main channel, and bays. The resulting data were then analyzed using an occupancy model.

The dwarf wedgemussel (Alasmidonta heterodon) is a federally endangered freshwater mussel that once ranged from New Brunswick to North Carolina, but now only exists in isolated populations throughout its diminished range. This study aimed to understand links between fish abundance and dwarf wedgemussel abundance and occurrence in the Connecticut and Delaware watersheds. Specifically, my study objectives were to 1) characterize fish assemblages near dwarf wedgemussel locations and unoccupied locations, 2) determine if dwarf wedgemussel occurrence and abundance are related to abundance of the known host fish species, tessellated darter and other potential host fish species per St. John White et. al. (2017). Two fish...

This USGS data release documents species distribution models for 271 fluvial fish species in their native ranges of the conterminous United States. Source data, supporting code and model results are documented in this data package. Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) models were used to develop presence/absence predictions for each of the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 2.1 stream segments within a species' native range. The predictions provided can be linked to the NHDPlusV2.1 geospatial dataset through the COMID to create a spatial depiction of the models. The primary results are stored in the file "BRT Predictions" and are provided in comma separated value (CSV) and Parquet file formats. Parquet file format...

This dataset contains information on all snakehead fishes found in the United States. It is a subset of a larger database, the Nonindigenous Aquatic Species Database (NAS). This information resource is an established central repository for spatially referenced biogeographic accounts of introduced aquatic species. The NAS website provides scientific reports, online/real-time queries, spatial data sets, distribution maps, fact sheets, and general information.

Important Forest Resource Areas are those landscape areas that are considered to be of high program potential or priority by State Forest Action Plans, and as defined by National Forest Stewardship Program Standards and Guidelines. This dataset contains the combined areas for Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin within the Mississippi River Basin. Grid Value "1": Stewardship Potential - Areas within a state that are eligible for Forest Stewardship and Rural Forestry Assistance Program delivery, but are not considered a priority. Grid Value "2": High Stewardship Potential - Priority areas within a state that are eligible for Forest Stewardship and Rural Forestry Assistance Program delivery.

Mainstem Mississippi River bottomlands. Derived by combining the Mississippi alluvial plain with natural floodplains created by the Scientific Assessment and Strategy Team for the Upper Mississippi. While the Mississippi alluvial plain is not entirely bottomland (e.g. Crowley's Ridge), excluding these non-bottomland areas from analysis would exclude opportunities to expand existing forest patches and enhance connectivity.
